visited with my kids enroute to a destination further south of Olympia. Folks were very welcoming (we even got free parking as some part of the senate was out for the day). The building is awesome and we got to see the house in session as well. Very informative for my kids.

The Washington State Capitol, like most other state capitols, is a showcase for the state and it's history. Park at the visitor center for 2 hours ($3) and walk for a block or 2 to get to the capitol building itself. We took advantage of the restrooms and maps at the visitor center to get us started. We were able... More

Probably a more beautiful setting than our National Capitol will ever be, at least, in my eyes.. My home town, so I am biased. The grounds are always beautiful all year round. This state should have been named Columbia, not Washington.

Beautiful views, especially from The lake. The architecture is spectacular both on the new capital building and the old. Beautiful large areas to walk in. Every direction is a beautiful and picturesque view. Gorgeous from Tumwater lookout as well.

My children grew up with the Capitol as their playground. We lived two blocks away. My daughter loves to take her son on walks through the campus and tell him about playing statue next to the dancing sculpture, or the fountains that used to flow on the East Campus, but now just holds weeds. Much of the East Campus landscaping... More

This is truly incredible for a state capitol. It feels as though it should be located in Washington DC instead!

OK so I work on campus so I probably take a lot for granted, parking is a nightmare during session, but you can't beat the view from the law enforcement memorial on a crisp, clear winter day, the spring flowers always look pretty. Too bad they can't keep up the sunken gardens anymore.

I was at the capitol to visit my reps. While there I was given a mini tour of the building. It is beautiful. I loved the architecture. I'm a big fan of old buildings and this one didn't disappoint. I will go back and do the guided tour and get more of the history but for the brief visit I... More

The kids had yet to visit their home state’s capitol building so we remedied that today as a detour from our stay in Seattle this weekend. Hourly guided tours are offered, but we “self-guided” ourselves through the bottom three floors. Impressive architecture and history/memorial displays. The gift shop had lots to offer from souvenirs to clothes to northwest food items... More
