We saw this on a Bellingham map in the motel room, and visited before we left town. Really nice walking trails, well marked and some interesting plaques along the way; good views... read more

One thing that is lovely about Bellingham is that there are so many trails and walks in wooded areas without having to leave the city. The arboretum offers a variety of trails that snake all around the mountain and the backside of Western Washington's campus. There is also a small lookout tower that offers a view of the bay on... A great place to walk, run on forested trails right in the middle of town. You may see owls, ravens, pileated wood peckers and more. This is probably the most underutilized green space in town. We are very lucky to have it

If you like walking in the deep gloom of an unbroken Douglas fir forest, you will love this "arboretum." Just keep in mind that it is not an arboretum in the sense conventionally used elsewhere. This is just native monoculture Douglas fir forest, not a variety of trees from around the world. It is not even a climax forest, which... More

Great for short hardy hikes to stay in shape. While the views aren't the best because of so many amazing trees, the area is just beautiful. You climb a little which is great for the legs and lungs but nothing is particularly difficult. Nice area.

The Arboretum does provide a wonderful view of Bellingham. It is a bit run down and can be occupied by WWU students drinking/smoking sometimes - but is worth it if you can get there when it is clear of students!

This is by Western Washington Uni. There is a tower to climb and the view of parts of Belllingham is awesome. A romantic hike as this trail is not as popular as Whatcom Falls Park.

Easy trail, runs behind the WWU campus. Great view from the observation tower. Fun walking through the tunnel!

The view from the tower at the top of the hill is very nice, and there are trails that lead various places. If you want a good aerobic hike, you can park at the very bottom by the gate and hike up to the top. Lush vegetation is a feast for the eyes at various times of the year.

This is a lovely area to go for a walk or run. There are a number of interconnecting trails in a lush, beautiful landscape on the edge of the university. This is a great place to spend an hour or two in the forest, very close to downtown.
