Fort Ward offers lots of opportunities for families, athletes and daily exercises. Paved and unpaved trails with beautiful views of the water. Some areas for picnicking and definitely family and pet (leashed) friendly. Good place year round and close to nice coffee shops, restaurants and the great little movie theater.

Well, it's impossible to get here. I've been lost three times over the years trying to find this thing. As you leave the main drag in Poulsbo there is a sign but after that there is ZERO signage telling you which way to turn through probably 30 minutes of twisty turning island county roads. I managed to find it once... More

Here are the remnants of an important tiny military base, but for the life of me I cannot understand why given its location here on this small, scenic island how it had any strategic significance. There is some effort that has been underway for several years to preserve what is left and restore what is not. It's interesting, but it... More

I like this area because I can bring guest of any age or fitness level. The even path makes for easy walking along the shores edge.

I love fort Ward. It has great walking, biking, strolling with wonderful stretches of lawn and easy access to beautiful beaches. Fort Ward is a great family excursion right on Bainbridge Island.

We have enjoyed walking along this paved waterfront path for many years. It is a reclaimed former military base and is located on some of the most prime waterfront real estate on the Island, In fact both ends of the trail abut high priced waterfront housing. Dense trees and nature on the uphill side and Puget Sound on the other.... More

Fort Ward was a major part of the Puget Sound/Salish Sea defense system. It was also a site of major gun emplacements prior to World War I, becoming home to the radio tower that intercepted and translated enemy coded messages in World War II. Following the Wars, the base was decommissioned and became a State Park. Recently the Bainbridge Island... More

This is a great park to get out and expore. A path follows along the water where old military buildings are still standing. Then it goes up into a neighborhood with some beautiful homes and a few more historic building. It's a good walk. Definitely feels like you got some exercise, especially up that hill. There is no directions telling... More

My husband and I enjoyed walking the paths and trails. The water views are beautiful. The military buildings are fascinating. Be sure to drive up around the parade grounds and see the brick officer buildings.

We visited on a weekend morning with friends who live on Bainbridge Island. We parked at the main lot, and walked the entire path and road until we got to Toe Jam Hill, turning around and returning to the parking lot about 3.8 miles total. The views of the ocean and the woods are incredible. Looking at the houses along... More
