This is a great park to get out and expore. A path follows along the water where old military buildings are still standing. Then it goes up into a neighborhood with some beautiful homes and a few more historic building. It's a good walk. Definitely feels like you got some exercise, especially up that hill. There is no directions telling... More

My husband and I enjoyed walking the paths and trails. The water views are beautiful. The military buildings are fascinating. Be sure to drive up around the parade grounds and see the brick officer buildings.

We visited on a weekend morning with friends who live on Bainbridge Island. We parked at the main lot, and walked the entire path and road until we got to Toe Jam Hill, turning around and returning to the parking lot about 3.8 miles total. The views of the ocean and the woods are incredible. Looking at the houses along... More

We were visiting friends who live on Bainbridge Island (lucky them!), and this morning we took the walk from the lower parking area to Toe Jam Hill, not quite 4 miles roundtrip. My friends explained the history of Fort Ward as we strolled in brilliant sunhine, with the water perfectly calm. It must have been a great place to be... More

First time here: Great paved walking trail along the shore overlooking Rich Passage. Each walk, no hills unless you take an adjoining trail uphill. There are a few parking spots outside the park and more inside. Free boat launch and restrooms. This is a great walk, easy bike ride and there are some historic Fort Ward buildings and ammo bunker.

This is a former fort for WW2 I believe and it low key and great for walking and getting close to the water with vey few people to disturb you. I has parking on both ends and delicious blackberries to pick.

You can walk/ride a flat paved road through the park that adjoins the blue waters of the Rich's Passage (sit in the sand) and the old army Fort Ward (visit the old bunkers). Easy to walk, or take the uphill trail (beautiful birds and trees) for more scenery and exercise. Good parking, bathrooms, bring your own snacks. Dogs on leash... More

Spectacular views of the sound, and nice flat trails for a senior and kids alike to walk on. There are no facilities inside the park other than "port-a-potties" which is too bad, but it does not differ frpom a lot of [parks in that regard.

The family and friends decided to take a day trip. We spent few hours here walking the trails and hanging out at the beach areas. My kid loved playing near the beach throwing rocks and running around. Beautiful scenery.

Fort Ward is the site of a former military installation on Rich Passage on the south side of Bainbridge Island. It is now a combination of park on the water and a housing development on the top of the hill where the parade grounds were located. some of the old brick buildings are converted into other uses and officer's homes...
