Description: The Original Ghosts of Williamsburg Candlelight Tour, based on the...
The Original Ghosts of Williamsburg Candlelight Tour, based on the research and writings of acclaimed author L. B. Taylor, Jr., is the oldest ghost tour in Williamsburg and second oldest in the USA. Taylor’s first book, The Ghosts of Williamsburg and Nearby Environs, led to a series of books documenting hauntings and paranormal activities in Williamsburg, the Virginia Commonwealth, and Mid-Atlantic region. The only tour company licensed to use L.B. Taylor’s stories, we include true stories told on the campus of the College of William and Mary. Our skilled story tellers weave nearly a dozen exclusive and authentic tales into a comfortable stroll through the dark streets. The stories are spooky, but not too scary for children. In 2012 we launched a late night, adults only tour. Our widely popular Extreme Ghost Tour is dark, edgy, and intense. Experience this late evening walk...if you dare. Our groups are kept small in order to enhance the storytelling and overall experience, with time provided for guests to take pictures. Join us and be a part of what so many satisfied guests from around the country and around the world have experienced over the last twenty-five years.

My family was on vacation in Virginia. We had an awesome tour guide, Brandon. He was very knowledgeable .... and .... phsssssss ... he knows how to draw you in with his bewitching stories. My 8 year old did get scared towards the end of the tour, because we took the extreme tour, and Brandon talked to him and gave... More

We love ghosty stuff and go on a ghost tour at every place we visit. Most are just junk. The extreme tour was WAY COOL. Great ghost stories and lots of weird pictures. I'll upload the pictures on your website cause that's where most of the pics seem to be. One thing this is NOT for kids. This tour was... More

Thanks, Lily! We are thrilled that someone who has experienced many “junk” ghost tours loved our Extreme Tour! You did not mention your guide’s name, but we have a strong team of guides, most of whom have been with us for many years ... a few for decades! Our stories, documented by LB Taylor, Jr are true, and our tours... More

Not happy at all about the way things happened with this Tour tonight....or more like, it never happened. Buyer beware! If you elect to do this tour- my recommendation( after our experience tonight) is to buy your tickets from The Williamsburg General Store and NOT on line! Make sure you are aware of where this tour is meeting because the... More

When we make a mistake we take responsibility. In this case, we did nothing wrong. Our brochure says, “EXTREME GHOST TOUR! Check it out at [our website address!]" We direct people to the website because information for the Extreme is on the website, not the brochure. The first thing you see on our website when your click on ‘Extreme Tour’... More

We went on the 9:15 Extreme Ghost tour with Mark as our guide. Mark is a very good story teller and interesting to listen to. Many people in our group captured orbs and anomalies on their pictures as did I. The extreme part I guess was having the EMF meter during the second half of the tour and yes, it... More

Mike is an engaging storyteller; he is high school teacher following service in the US Marines. We are not surprised that people captured anomalies and orbs on their cameras. There are hundreds of pictures on our website taken by guests documenting ghostly activity. EMF meters go off when they detect electromagnetic energy, whether created by earthly power sources or by... More

As an experienced ghost hunter, I was very excited to take this tour of a new location. Once we arrived I knew immediately it was a mistake. The check in process was extremely unorganized and I felt as if I was a "number" and they could have cared less I was there. They had my money already. Once it got... More

Apparently you did not read or fully understand our tour description. We tell true stories collected and written by acclaimed author LB Taylor, and are the only tour with permission from the author to do so. Many experienced ghost hunters come on our tours, often with their own equipment, for use as a rich source of evidence to support the... More

My husband and I went on the Extreme Tour last night with guide Brandon. He did a great job incorporating the local history and historic buildings of Williamsburg into creepy tales and legends as we walked along the dark deserted streets of Williamsburg. I'm an American history major, and I didn't expect to be impressed by a ghost tour, but... More

We are delighted that you enjoyed your tour and guide! Our goal in creating this tour was to tell creepy true stories in the dark streets and locations where they occurred. Engaging, interesting, and knowledable story tellers are essential. Brandon loves history because that was his college major. His interest in L.B. Taylor’s writings combined with his young vibe gives... More

As a local, I sometimes forget all of the awesome things at CW. The ghost tour is a must do activity, our guide Clare was phenomenal. She is incredibly knowledgeable about the area and made the tour very interesting and thought provoking. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Clare, a guide with us for many years, is a true believer. She actually lives in a haunted house! You mentioned that the tour was “thought provoking”, which we consider a great compliment. Exceptional storytelling combined with authentic narratives can bring guests into the moment, making the hauntings come alive. Perhaps that is the reason why we have so many... More

I went on this tour in 2004 and decided to come back 11 years later. It was just as fun and enjoyable as it was the first time. Our "ghost host," Carter, was terrific and insightful. We thoroughly enjoyed the learning about the history and ghost stories of Colonial Williamsburg.

We are delighted that you were “reunited” with Jim Carter. He is quite a character and an entertaining storyteller who has been with us for almost twenty years. We hope that you don’t have to wait 11 more years to return. Thank you for reviewing The Extreme Tour. More

There is so much to see in Colonial Williamsburg that it was overwhelming (we had not done our research). I wish that we had done this tour before doing anything else because 1) the evening temps were so much better for a relaxed walk around the area, 2) there are apparently several places that you can tour separately but we... Many thanks for your informative review. Our hot summer days can be a challenge, and therefore a very good reason to go on a night-time tour! The College of William and Mary has been a source of excellent guides for us for many years. Unfortunately, unlike your authentic review not all reviews are genuine or helpful. Some tour companies deceive... More

My husband and I took the Original Ghost Tour on July 31st. Our guide was Ben who is an excellent storyteller. He knew his material and kept the audience entertained and involved, even the children. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Williamsburg. The only negative we have, and this was not the fault of Ben, was that when... More

Thank you for reviewing the Original tour. Ben is a respected local high school teacher who loves to entertain guests. Since we introduced The Ghost Tour thirty years ago, numerous copy-cat tours have appeared (and disappeared) sometimes making for crowded streets and crowd noise. For this reason, we limit group size. More
