This historical home is tucked away in a VB neighborhood. Following the signs can be a bit tricky, as visitors are absolutely convinced they are simply in a neighborhood. They would be right. Adam Thoroughgood House IS in a neighborhood full of beautiful homes. Once you do get there, take the time to learn of its history, and walk around.... More

very nice for the locals. It's a bit quaint if you come from the DC area where we have a plethora of museums and historical houses.

I love this historical landmark! It's so amazing to see such a well kept piece of our local history. The guides add a touch of whimsy in their period dress. For a small contribution it's a great few hours.

Thought the Thoroughgood house is a bit of a distance from the beach, it is definitely woth the trip. It is supposedly the first brick home in America and is small but charming. Great effort has been made to preserve the building andit is regularly referred to in history texts, design magazines and historical publications.

Most attractions in Virginia Beach focus on, of course, the beach. Or the military. This venue is a nice taste of history, though. It's not Williamsburg (which is mostly fake, I hear), but it's a nice little stop. It's an unexpected plantation feel in the middle of a modern neighborhood. It's impressive how you can step back in time while... More

If you need a history fix, but Williamsburg's too far or too complex for the time you have, here's your place. It's antiquity is impressive in domestic Virginia history. Well-kept. Step-back in time in a gentle, pleasant way.

We attempted to get the tour of this house but apparently the last tour of the day, which is 4:30, started early because we got there at 4:25 because of traffic (only 8 miles from the KOA but took us over 35 minutes to get there - keep that in mind). We were disappointed not to see the home.

We drove to the location and when seeing what it looked like and how small it was , we decided to just not go in. If it was free then we would have gone through it.

We had a great tour of this old home. It included the history of the home and the life of the people who lived there. It's being restored, so we couldn't go upstairs, but we saw a lot on the ground floor and the basement!
