There are a lot of things to like about this historic site. Here are some of the reasons: 1) relatively small group tours (4-5 people 2) a bargain price wise-5 dollars 3) a fascinating story about an indentured servant who rises to become a member of the H of B 4) very interesting architectural details and 5) A very knowledgeable... This house was a great stop on our visit to Virginia Beach. As part of a combo ticket (which was five dollars as a college student) it was well worth it. The tour guide was friendly and loved to talk about more than just the history of the house. My only disappointment was that we were unable to go upstairs.... More

This was the first house on the 3 house tour -- Cost $7.00 each for a senior tour -- to see all three homes. The other homes are the Francis Land house and the Lynnhaven home. The docents at all three were well versed, articulate and added a sense of humor to their spiels. I'e done each home separate. The... More

I took my family here and we all really enjoyed it. It really captures the early American feeling and offers a glimpse into the life of early settlers.

Our primary purpose of the trip was an ocean holiday. I've very glad we decided to make a side trip to this home. The place wasn't busy, and we had the tour guide all to ourselves (I suspect this is usually the case). She was very nice and well informed, able to answer all our questions. It was fascinating to... I went there 30 years ago and 10 years ago. The tour was excellent and the scenery and tour guide was all excellent. Would not mind going again some day.

This historical home is tucked away in a VB neighborhood. Following the signs can be a bit tricky, as visitors are absolutely convinced they are simply in a neighborhood. They would be right. Adam Thoroughgood House IS in a neighborhood full of beautiful homes. Once you do get there, take the time to learn of its history, and walk around.... More

very nice for the locals. It's a bit quaint if you come from the DC area where we have a plethora of museums and historical houses.

I love this historical landmark! It's so amazing to see such a well kept piece of our local history. The guides add a touch of whimsy in their period dress. For a small contribution it's a great few hours.

Thought the Thoroughgood house is a bit of a distance from the beach, it is definitely woth the trip. It is supposedly the first brick home in America and is small but charming. Great effort has been made to preserve the building andit is regularly referred to in history texts, design magazines and historical publications.
