During our visit the town of Virginia Beach commenced pumping very dirty, nasty black water through a gigantic pipe directly into the ocean. The water in the ocean for hundreds of yards was black. I ordered my family to stay out of the water and we packed up and left the next morning. A sign said that they were doing... More

This 38 block boardwalk feature a clean and safe beach that is available to the public. The board walk itself has separate paths for walkers and traffic bicycles. There numerous bicycle rental places with every type of bike from a beach cruiser to huge coach type bikes that a family of four can ride. Roller skaters with inline or regular... More

Great beach with lots of activities - horseback riding, biking, fishing off the pier - and lots of local restaurants to just sit and enjoy the view.

The Boardwalk is a great place to stroll, run, bike or blade. They are just changing the law so dogs on a leash will be allowed year round (restricted hours in summer season). Please be aware that there is a separate bike path and it is ILLEGAL to bike on the Boardwalk during the season -- police can ticket you.... More

Over the years I have witnessed the beautiful transformation of the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. It's spacious and can accommodate both walking and bike traffic with benches along the 3 mile route. There are at least four stages that offer lots of free shows during the summer months and plenty of restaurants to accommodate all palettes. In my opinion the annual... More

Great place to visit in summer, spring, fall. Sand on beach appears to be artificially replenished each year, but still scenic. Only place I know where you can stand on the beach and see pairs of dolphins going in and out of the ocean water. Great restaurants at various price points along the parallel street. Catch 31 is a bit... More

The boardwalk is plenty wide, with separate pedestrian and biking trails. The restaurants are plentiful but pricey. There are no attractions and the gift shops are on the street behind the hotels. There are plenty of lifeguards and police bike patrols for safety. There are some interesting pieces of art and scattered green areas but very little shade.

The Boardwalk at Virginia Beach as it now exists is a long and wide concrete boardwalk, with easy access to the beach itself while also giving visitors access to the live performances (in season) that are ongoing at the end of most streets ending at the Boardwalk. In addition, many of the Oceanfront hotels have Boardwalk cafes featuring full menus... More

Atlantic avenue is not the place to be on weekends in the summer if you have small children....young people take over the streets and the language and behavior is scary. As a single female I will not be on those streets after dark and I live there.
