day trip to Tangier Island out of Leesburg airport. Our pilot was awesome and helped facilitate some of our island tours. He knows the locals and had good contacts there to visit. We're in our late 30s and it was just my wife and I on the trip. Weather was beautiful. Best parts: We met the Mayor and took a... More

My wife and I took the ferry from Reedville, VA; the crew was hospitable and knowledgeable when we had questions. We couldn't understand a lot of the captain's narration due to the speaker system being unclear but that was ok because the trip itself was pleasant - we saw lots of osprey nesting - pretty neat. We ate at Fisherman's... More

I have a dear friend who just moved to Crisfield, MD. From the dock next to her condo you can catch a boat to Tangier Island. We were visiting June 28th and decided to go to The boat ride was very nice. there was plenty of room for everyone. The boat was clean! Also, you could buy soda or water... More

You can see everything there is to see on the island in and hour and a half but because only way to get there is via ferry (I guess you can fly in also) you are there for 4 to 5 hours. Restaurant food is good but a bit pricey for what you get. Gonna mark this visit as a... More

We took the Chesapeake Breeze ferry from Reedsville, VA to Tangier Island. The ferry ride was beautiful and the boat was clean. You could get drinks-(water, soda) and very limited snacks on the ferry (I would bring snacks myself next time). The cruising time was about an hour and a half -a pleasant trip- then about 3 hours on the... More

My wife and I led our church senior group to Tangier Island in late June 2014. The 50 of us boarded the Chesapeake Breeze boat in Reedville, VA for the 1 3/4 hour ride to the island. The Captain provides a periodic narrative about the area including menhaden fishing and factories in Reedville and general introduction to Tangier Island and... More

What bothered me was that we got off the boat to approach the island, the residents of the island we there to greet us but some could be quite pushy to take a tour. The island was small enough that we could walk around by ourselves, and that's what we did. As we were walking around there were many points... More

Tangier Island is an approximately 90 minute ferry ride from Crisfield, MD. Take the Steven Thomas for $70 round-trip. Around 700 people live on the island, and the main source of income is crabbing. When you arrive, head for Hilda Crockett's House restaurant. They serve an all-you-can eat meal family-style that is amazing! The table is loaded with crab cakes,... More

My DH and I rode our boat over on a beautiful Sunday. Tangier Island is a tiny village whose main industry is crabbing. I enjoyed seeing all the work sheds on posts over the water where each boat had its 'home', and stacks of crab traps along their docks. Since it was soft shell crab season, some of the sheds had... I think you either love Tangier Island or hate it. Our host at the B&B we stayed at even told us that sometimes she turns people away, because she knows they are looking for a touristy place that offers lots of amenities and entertainment. Tangier Island is a place long forgotten by the modern world. There are only a handful... More
