Difficult hike if you take the scenic trail. It is a 4 mile hike in total and was difficult but the waterfall is lovely.

We took the lower path to the falls which was more difficult but very scenic and worth the extra effort - we had hiking poles which really helped as I slipped a couple of times. It took us about an hour and 45 mins. to get up, but we did stop several times to enjoy the views. The falls itself... More

perfect weather to go in early May. you must be prepared for the hike. there's a lower and upper hike. lower is hard and upper is easy. we went the lower trial going up and took the upper trial coming done. i think that's the best choice. lower trial is just beautiful. its really scenic. i'd advice to take that... If you have the time on your way south, it is worth the stop. Great hike that even our 4-year old handled easily. The falls were impressive. Nice to be able to walk downhill on the return trip.

This hike took us about two hours to do the four mile hike. About an hour hiking in (on the more difficult trail) and about 40 minutes walking back. Some advice: 1) Bring $3 cash or a checkbook for parking. There is no way to get change and no way to get out of the parking fee. Hit the rest... More

It took us about 1.5 hours to make the hike round trip. The weather was chilly and windy, but the hike is well protected from most of the elements. The falls were still partially frozen and a little snow on the ground. It was so refreshing to get to spend some time in the beautiful outdoors.

This is a beautiful 69 foot waterfall with a really interesting base. On my visit there was a very high water level, which reduced the beauty a little, in my opinion, but it was a wonderful hike and I will definitely go back. If you don't like crowds, try to visit during a weekday. It was packed on the Saturday... More

Cascade Falls is a beautiful 66-foot waterfall. It’s accessible through Cascades Day Use Area in Jefferson National Forest, just outside of Pembroke and about 20 minutes or so from Blacksburg. The site is open year round and easily accessible (no long gravel forest roads) so this is a great opportunity to see a frozen waterfall. After sustained periods of cold... More

The trail in and out to get to the waterfall is 2 miles each way, so you'll have to allow adequate time. The trail is constructed in such a way so there is a turn around point at 1 mile in if you're short on time. Breathtaking scenery throughout, just no waterfall on the shorter trail. You can choose from... More

A nice simple 4 mile hike - two miles to the falls and two miles back. The cost is $3 a car on the honor system. Our National Parks Pass would have worked but we didn't bring it.
