Family owned for generations, the facility at Ginns Ngawha Spa is a little more sterile than the springs at Waiariki Pools (the ones visible from the road, to the left of Ginns). This place has about 8 thermal pools open to the public, as well as a holiday unit available for rent at about NZ$80 per night, and a reasonable... More

A perfect place to spend a wet afternoon/evening in the bay of islands. Friendly, welcoming and very relaxing.

The Ngawha Springs is a thermal area for the healing of the sick and wounded. In days gone past this was where the Ngapuhi came to heal their wounds after they had been to a battle. They would bathe in the healing waters while whanau made food for them. I was feeling like I was needing to heal some of... More

This is exactly what I needed to unwind & relax. As other viewers have expressed, once you get over the "basics" of it all, it is very authentic and luxuriating. I actually got told that the local pool was better. I would have visited this one if I even knew it existed. DO NOT visit here, if you have an... More

The place is very laidback and rustic. First you´ll arrive there and have a doubt because of the smell, but once you´ll get into the pools you´ll forget the smell and really enjoy the experience. There are 8 different pools each with different temperatures. Make sure you stay overnight, because you´ll be able to go in the pools and enjoy... More

Went with the family TWICE on our way through. Apart from your bathing suit and towels stinking for a week or so later, this was amazing. Rustic but REAL. You just can't do ANYTHING with a family for $20 anymore, and this was more fun than anything 10 times the price. Don't miss it. DON'T DUNK YOUR HEAD! Brain eating... More

We usually always go to the other ones next door but thought we'd give these one's a try for a change. The pools themselves were ok, but just lacking the authenticity and relaxed atmosphere of the other ones. The old rusty swing chair especially creeped me out. The temperatures indicated were definitely not accurate. The old lady proprietor waits for... More

Initially we got there & went hmm, not what we were expecting. Very basic, very run down, but an experience all the same. My wife refused to get in the pools but the kids & I had a good time. My had a bit of fun rubbing mud over themselves. Did take a couple of showers to clean myself up

There are two different mineral hot springs - Ginns Ngawha Spa and Waiariki Pools. Ensure you go to Waiariki Pools, which will be the first one you see. If you find yourself in a camp ground then you've gone the wrong way. Waiariki is the cheaper of the two ($4 vs. $5) and feels much more authentic, with a rustic... More

This a review of the Waiariki Pools not the campsite ones, I believe they are good but we preferred the ones the locals use. As others have mentioned the facilities and fabric are pretty shabby so you have to ignore that. However again as others mentioned it seems to have this air of relaxation and rest which you feel as... More
