Initially we got there & went hmm, not what we were expecting. Very basic, very run down, but an experience all the same. My wife refused to get in the pools but the kids & I had a good time. My had a bit of fun rubbing mud over themselves. Did take a couple of showers to clean myself up

There are two different mineral hot springs - Ginns Ngawha Spa and Waiariki Pools. Ensure you go to Waiariki Pools, which will be the first one you see. If you find yourself in a camp ground then you've gone the wrong way. Waiariki is the cheaper of the two ($4 vs. $5) and feels much more authentic, with a rustic... More

This a review of the Waiariki Pools not the campsite ones, I believe they are good but we preferred the ones the locals use. As others have mentioned the facilities and fabric are pretty shabby so you have to ignore that. However again as others mentioned it seems to have this air of relaxation and rest which you feel as... More

I took my mother and mother in law along to Nga Wha. My maori mil saw the 2 different spas as we drove round the bend, and immediately pointed at one and said "that one looks more maori" so we went to that one (not Ginns camp ground, the one next to it). So yes, it had long sticks as... More

For the first time, I stayed a night in a room in the old hotel. It was clean and in a rustic style. The room and unlimited pool visits were $30. I thought that the deal was very good value. I think that the camping charge may have been $8 plus a $5 pool charge per person. Each pool has... More

We come often to Ginns Ngawha Springs and always leave relaxed, and a few days feels like a weeks break. We spent New Years Eve there 2014/2015 and what a wonderful evening. We gathered in the favourite pool, Twin pool, and saw the new year in together. Lovely evening with lovely people and a bonfire too. Come and refresh your... More

As with other reviews I can't delineate the 2 thermal pools at Ngawha for reviewing. I didn't have time to visit both and this all about the Waiariki Pools. Brilliant, yes. Run down, yes. Relaxing, yes. Rejuvenating, yes. Really basic facilities (change-room only separate M&F), hot and cold muddy pools most with wooden floors and a huge range of temperatures,... More

Ngawha hot pools are the real deal. It is such a special place and everyone leaves feeling both mentally and physically uplifted. If you are ever in Northland do yourself a favour and experience the hot pools. People from all over the globe go there for the healing properties in the mineral waters. An untouched jewel in Northlands crown.

There are 2 different mineral hot spring pools side by side on Ngawha Springs Road, but there doesn't seem to be a listing of either by name, so I'll review them both now. Ginns Ngawha Spa costs $5 and Waiariki Pools costs $4, so I tried them both. It was a Saturday morning, and both were very quiet. My first... More

Fantastic rough and ready place to experience thermal hot pools. Don't expect anything or than a shed to get changed in and zero facilities! But why would you? Relax in the geothermal heated mineral pools. The whole place doesnt offer anything visually and the murkey, bubbling foul smelling water certianly doesnt, but immerse yourself in the water and all your... More
