Ferreira are one of the few companies to remain owned by a Portuguese family since starting and their tour is well thought out and good humoured, talking through the fermentation process, different types and classifications of port, ageing, large casks for ruby versus small barrels for tawny, LBV vs vintage, how long you can keep them for and so on.... For 4,5 euros (group price) you can take a tour of the winery and its cellars, taste two glasses of red and white porto, and have the chance to purchase one of the finest portos for home. I'm not a real drinker so I cannot comment on the quality of the porto (but it seemed really good and many from... More

This was our first time seeing a Port factory. It was a short tour, 30 minutes, followed by a tasting of two different ports. We enjoyed the briefness of the tour and the alcohol was delicious!

Of course we had to visit a port cellar on our trip to Porto. We initially chose Niepoort, but that has no cellar to visit, only a shop in town (Vinoteca Copo e Alma, see my other review). We then went off to Offley, which was closed for the season. Then Sandeman, which did not have an English tour that... More

We didn't do the tour (having already done the one at Taylors) so we just did a tasting. We mentioned it was one of the girls birthdays and they gave her an extra glass of vintage port which was a nice touch. It was a lovely place to while away a bit of time and drink some delicious port. The... More

Touring a port lodge is like touring a brewery or any other winery. Sure, there may be particular nuances for that particular establishment, but in general they are all doing something quite similar. The tour, while incredibly informative, goes on for quite some time and involves an ample amount of walking (who knew this particular lodge was so expansive). What... More

We enjoyed a very well done guided tour through this beautiful old port winery showing a great deal of history and the rechnical process of making port wine. Nice gift shop at the end (well, of course!)

Just back from Porto. I love port so decided to go and look around this port cellar (cave). Classic tour cost 5 euros and we'll worth the money. History explained and the production process. I now know the difference between the different types of port and my wife loved the white port. All in all good value and the samples... More

We were advised by our hotel staff to visit this bodega as it is a good example of a Portuguese bodega and one of the few remaining in Portuguese ownership. It's at the far end of the stretch of bodegas so it's less frantic than the ones nearer to the bridge from Porto main town. Guided tours (about 45 minutes)... More
