The old market in Naxos is a maze of narrow streets with shops and restaurants. It is a fun way to use an hour or two, depending upon your tolerance for shopping and if you choose to have a meal. It's a great path to follow while going to the castle and return down a different path.

In a hot afternoon we decided to visit old town: it is a mix of history and comerce, with very narrow streets bordered with interesting souvenirs shops ,that all lead to the castle on the top, after an easy climb. We even get lost and did circle around in the attempt to find a restaurant with the motto " find us if... More

What an amazing place to wander round - and get lost - we found new bits of it every time we walked round. The alleyways bend in all directions, until you don't know which way you are facing, it's like stepping back centuries.

It is a lovely residential area with winding lane ways and small arch ways to duck under, it really is an old town in such walking up there , there is no bars or restaurants , just peoples homes. It is nice and I have friends from New Zealand who love it there, but they have not been to the... More

Narrow winding streets that interconnect (as in Mykonos) lead to all sorts of interesting finds. Especially frozen greek yogurt and ice cream shops! Fun to walk around and get lost in.

A must do lots of little shops and excellent restaurants serving the most amazing variety of food. Quiet during the day comes alive after dusk.

What others have written before me is true. Even with a map it's very difficult not to lose one's sense of direction among the winding alleys. At the top is the walled area of the medieval Dukes of Naxos, with the RC Cathedral. Most of the tavernas are in the first few alleys back. No easy way to the top... More

Wonderful to walk in the mase of the old town of Naxos, up hill to the castle and down again to the harbor. A great walk in the early morning when the restaurants are still closed and there is kind of quietness before the storm.

It was October when I was there and things were winding down from their high season so while I walked I was the only one around most of the time. You are transported to a simpler time and place as you wind around the cobblestone paths, I enjoyed getting lost! The shops that were open were fabulous and the owners... More

Lovely little maze of alleys, stairways, cul de sacs. Never know what's going to be around the corner. We stayed in the old town and ate there a couple of time. Fabulous.
