I took a glimpse of one review, before starting mine, about this "not being worth the visit". This is the thing I don't understand - it's there, few hundred meters from you, you are there, your hotels are near, beaches... it's right there, and it's problem to walk those 200 hundred meters? :) The castle is beautiful, the stairs, rocks,... Attended two very nice concerts on the terrace. Recommend bringing a warm jacket for evening (outdoor) performances.

Loved this excursion to the Kastro with a local guide who painted the place alive with history. The views aren't bad either.

Part of the charm of the Kastro is that it is a labyrinthine mix of houses, shops and restaurants topped by the remains of a castle. Without the aid of Ariadne and her ball of string its is easy to either get lost or forget where you’ve been. Maps and directions are poor, which adds to the excitement. We visited... More

Nothing special. A few winding streets with average views. Not worth a special trip in our opinion. ................

The Kastro is interesting to wander around, there are lots of quirky little buildings, and artisan shops. The highlight for us is undoubtedly the festival at the Venetian Tower. We have been to many of the events, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There is a varied programme, and the producer Nikos is passionate about preserving and promoting the heritage of Naxos.... More

The "castle" was a governor's residence and the museum contains furniture, clothing and knick-knacks the family owned from the late 1800s. The highlight is the basement where you can have free samples of local ouzo and other liquors. The basement has also been made into a gift shop - I think two euros admission would be more credible.

So much history in the Venetian Architecture of the Museums and various buildings which in the summer host various nighttime concerts featuring anything from classical music to Traditional Naxioti music and dancing. The walk up to the Kastro is an excursion of its own with the winding pathways revealing unbelievable views of Naxos and surrounding Islands.

The Kastro of Naxos has the unique ability to show you the history that is hidden behind its walls. In the old days, people used to live in it, in order to protect themselves from pirates. Now, it still has many residents, but also museums, galleries, churches and shops. Our wedding planner from Love and Dare Wedding & Event Planning... More
