The island before the city port. The old Great Door (the massive marble doorway) is a must see of Naxos. Is the first thing you see and the last when you leave the island. A small walk around the door of the temple of Apollo it's worth it. You can also eat something at Palatia Island Cafe (a nice place... More

Just passed the big ship port at the end of a walkway, passed the white sculpture are stairs that lead to this majestic archway to nowhere. Definitely take the short stroll out there to enjoy all of its historic beauty.

This unfinished temple devoted to Apollo, god of the sun, is like an open door to the sea, the skies and the beautiful white city of Naxos. After a refreshing path flanked by the waves of the Aegean sea you'll reach this hill with a wondeful panorama.

The most famous landmark of Greece's Naxos Island is the Portara, a massive 2,500-year-old marble doorway that leads nowhere. Near the port.

Once you reach the Naxos port you can see the beautiful Marble gate. This a point for seeing the sunset too. From the top you can see the both sides of the see, When we were there one side was calm and the other side was pretty rough.

A lovely viewpoint where you can see out to see, and get a great view of Naxos town. I would advise to visit early in the morning, as it will be less busy. I visited at sunset which was very busy, however the view was stunning - if you pick the right spot, it's not so bad! I found a... More

Brilliant sunset views and also beautiful views of Naxos town. Apart from that not much else. Large crowds around sunset.

It's so romantic. We got there about an hour before sunset, and the Temple of Apollo was beautiful. You can grab some food and sit on one of the ledges overlooking Delos (the island that faces the door, which is also the birth place of Apollo). The view of Naxos town is also beautiful from The Portara. Great photo ops.... More
