From the port it takes a short stroll along the seaside and a 70-80 stairs to climb to get the best view of town and sea, amazing ! When we were there ,the sea had big waves making noise, the sky was clear and it was a pleasure just to just relax there.

It didn't look like much from town, but this little peninsula just outside town offers a nice view of the town and is a little escape from the crowds. Except maybe at sunset, when it looked like a lot of people headed that way.

We thought we would be the only one here to watch the sunset! First of all, it was a very invigorating walk out to the site. The wind was up and the waves were crashing onto the causeway. When we got to the door, there was a large throng of people already gathered with cameras in hand to shoot the... More

Apparently this was the gateway to a temple of Apollo which was never completed. Nearly 3000 years old and towering over the port of Naxos. As with many ancient constructions it is difficult to imaging how it was made with the technology of the times. It is worth the walk up the hill as there are steps and pathways to... More

I decided not to go for the sunset because of the amount of people, although the sunset would have been amazing, I decided to go during he day instead and I'm so glad I did. To my amazement I was the only person up there. I really got to take it all in and enjoy the wonderful views which was... More

This is what remains of the temple of Apollo. One of the best sunsets I have ever watched! Be careful when you are walking to get there and there's wind, as you may have a shower!

The day our ship docked at Naxos port was late September when the ' Aegean Vortex' hit. During a several day timeframe constant 35 MPH winds, gusts to 50 MPH with waves up to 9 meters hit the area. High windblown waves crashed across the narrow portion of the exposed walkway to The Portara with such frequency and ferocity, there... More

We made the very easy trek up the hillside in plenty of time to enjoy the sunset and take some photos. As it was early October, there were not many people to compete with for space.
