We walked the Portata on our last day of a 10 day stay on Naxos. We saw it every day from the balcony of our fabulous studio apartment and felt we had to go there before we left. It was an amazing experience to go during the evening hours and while the Meltemi winds were gusting! Be sure you take... More

Wonderful sight when you arrive on the Ferry--the signature image of Naxos. It is especially beautiful at sunset.

Sure, it's beautiful. But the place is packed around sunset time and once you've seen the portara there's nothing left to do but wait as the sun goes down and the crowd moves... It's beautiful but a bit overrated, I would recommend going during the day to avoid all the people and finding a restaurant near the water to see... More

It's amazing to see in person. Climb the steps upwards right before sunset. It feels as if you've traveled back in time.

the monument itself is nothing much but the views of the port and naxos town are great. I think not a must go

it is a short and easy walk up to the Portara ..and worth it for the view of Old Town and the ruins..especially as the sun is setting..with the twinkling lights from town. Beautiful spot worth seeing.

Access to the unfinished temple is convenient to town, quick to visit, and there are some good views back at the town and harbor. The large square doorway standing alone in the ruins is impressive. There's not much else to see there, but it's worth the effort, and the short visit.

We came to Naxos many times, however never had a chance to walk at the Portara until this morning. It was unforgettable . This is a must see point. We took photos from our hotel rooms @ Grotta many, many times, nothing compared to our experience of this morning. If you want to get the best views of Naxos, explore... More

A lovely 20 miute walk with some great photography opportunities. There are nice eateries close by and some great rocky and rough shore shots to be had round the back. a photographers paradise. especially towards sunset.

As you approach on the boat you see the monument standing there in all its glory. It'll only take you 5 minutes to walk around it but you take a good while taking in the views from The Portara.
