Of all the 3 days we're in naxos, we came here everyday! We came at sunset, sunrise and just taking more and more beautiful pictures of Portara. We also like the rocks before the hike uphill and taking more pictures. The water was very clear! The city view from Portara was also breathtaking. Love it!

You can have a seat near the port there and around 7:40pm, you can enjoy the sunset view with the portara. Amazing!

Well it's a small island where you can walk up to the acient gate of the apollo temple which they never build. It's a nice small walk and the gate is nice, but if you go during peak hours you will see lots of idiots trying to climb up the gate to take a picture, which will ruin the gate... More

The Portara was our favourite archaeological site after the Parthenon. As you enter the port you can’t help but stare as this ancient monument welcomes you. Whether sunset or sunrise you can’t help but try and imagine what this once looked like as an entrance to a building. Great spot for photos.

Beautiful views at sunset when the sun sets right through the Portara. Lots of tourists, but able to still get a good picture!

This is a magnificent marble doorway built hundreds of years ago. Its a pity, direct access has been stopped, but I guess thats to keep it for another 500 years. Wonderful photos and good place to watch sunset.

What a romantic sight-- greeting visitors in the harbor as they disembark from the ferries. The massive golden marble doorway, resting on an islet, is all that remains of a 6th century temple dedicated to Apollo. It is impossible to resist. The walk up to the ruins give visitors myriad photo opportunities, especially at sunset. My personal favorite was taken... More

For an incomplete temple fragment this was surprisingly cool to look at. Something captivating about it. I recommended going and getting enchanted by this thing!

The Portara stands proud above the town of Naxos on a small headland and is the first thing you see when arriving by ferry. Worth the short walk from the habour for the lovely view back to town
