I camp here frequently. They have an unimproved area reserved for Scouts, and I bring the Troop here for primitive camping. The regular campground has all the regular campground amenities, and the camp office/convenience store is being rebuilt from the ground up right now to offer better service. Other parts of the park offer archery, boating, hiking, playgrounds, picnic areas,... More

Newport News Park rents canoes, pedal boats, and jon boats from the park boat ramp and campground ramp. A friend and I took kayaks to the campground ramp to paddle the city reservoir. You will hear some road noise from Jefferson Ave and -I64 but after a short time you tune it out and enjoy the waterway. Paddling under Jefferson... More

We camped in the park and what a treat that was. We had a great view of the reservoir and the setting was really pretty! Perfect for camping and enjoying a little camp fire. We explored the trails and found a lot of civil war fortifications all over one side of the park. It was interesting but in a way... More

This park is awesome, they have so many different activities. From kayaking to hiking. You can have parties and get togethers there. I definitely reccommend this for families. P.S. checkout the lights during Christmas Time.

Nature and history lovers dream. Nice trails with some history mixed through the trails. They have a discovery center for the young and old. They are starting to set up the Christmas lights which look amazing.

I had not encountered before disc golf courses where you had to pay to play. But the five bucks is worth it to meander around the fields and forests to find your next tee-off. Some spots are fun, some average. The park as a whole is expansive and interesting but disc golf is all we did.

Cool trails running through the woods but extremely too many snakes not enjoyable for the family.... some of the other areas of the park you're afraid to do anything without getting in trouble.

We enjoy hiking and biking in this park. It's one of the few places where you can get a lengthy hike or ride in a park setting within city limits. There are plenty of other outdoor rec options: camping/tenting, paddle boats, canoes, fishing, pavilions, golf, and more. In addition to trails, there is a 5K service road that can be... More
