I was here for an event and have been to the park several times. It is a wonder place with nice trails, historic areas, great camping, large and clean shelters and lots to do. I wish I lived close enough to visit more often.

Lots of shade and places for chairs. Lots of space for games and vendors to set up shop. Parking has room for many cars. A bit of walk to restrooms, our event had special Porta Potties available only to our group.

Enjoy the trails and a perfect Civil War battle that took place across a lake/damed river. The battle of Dam #1 is a famous battle which produced two medals of honor, hundreds of killed and a taste for what the next 3 years will provide the combatants in this contest. Very good walking trail with small wooden bridges and signs... More

We spent 2 hrs hiking through the park. There are 35 miles of trails for hiking and biking. All flat land and easy trails. You can challenge yourself by adding distance or speed. They have canoes, paddle boats, etc for rent. I believe the rentals are only on the weekends, though? $5/hr which is very inexpensive and they all appeared... More

The Newport News Park has so many things to do that you cannot do them in one day. If you enjoy geocaching, there are so many that there is a map available at the visitor's center. Many well kept and marked hiking trails wind their way through the park. There is also an educational center in the park to learn... More

The trails, play grounds and picnic huts offer both rustic and modern conveniences. It is a good place to hike or just take a leisurely walk.

This campground is located inside the city limits of Newport News, VA. It has 8,000 acres of unspoiled land located on the shores of the city reservoir. All 188 sites are large and shaded in the forest. Newly refinished bathhouses. This piece of land was a part of the civil war and original bunkers are marked and many times just... More
