I chose family because my special needs daughter loves playing on the playground equipment. We also walk the trails and ALL of us have been entranced by the turtles. We often feed them dog food. My daughter is physically 17 and mentally 5. She also has ADD. I LOVE when things hold her attention. If we are walking the trails... More

This is a great day hike park right off of I-64. It is huge, has plenty of trails, and is safe (it is located in the northern part of Newport News, not in the southern part where there is a lot of crime). There is also a bike trail that leads to Yorktown Battlefield and Yorktown beach. The park has... More

they need to update swings and play areas. maybe put new grills out and make some of the picnic areas screened in for those who come with infants to keep them from getting bitten by bugs.

My family goes here multiple times a year. Good for picnics and walking, canoeing and kayaking. Always go to the Newport News Park Fall Festival and Festival of Lights. Also, safe place for families and kids to play.

Beautiful park that offers golf, water sports, camping, civil war trails and picnic areas. Plenty roads for biking and museum in park area.

I just visited the City of Lights in the Newport News Park. I have seen various Christmas Events in multiple states, this one in the Park stole the show. The crowd was somewhat overwhelming but all the traffic moved at a reasonable pace. If you expect to drive straight thru without stopping and enjoying an excellent themed Christmas Show, then... $12 a car is ridiculous and I would be more accepting if they used some of that money to pay for some quality traffic control. It was a free for all out on the 143 and it is just a matter of time before there are accidents! Way over priced!!!

I camp here frequently. They have an unimproved area reserved for Scouts, and I bring the Troop here for primitive camping. The regular campground has all the regular campground amenities, and the camp office/convenience store is being rebuilt from the ground up right now to offer better service. Other parts of the park offer archery, boating, hiking, playgrounds, picnic areas,... More

Newport News Park rents canoes, pedal boats, and jon boats from the park boat ramp and campground ramp. A friend and I took kayaks to the campground ramp to paddle the city reservoir. You will hear some road noise from Jefferson Ave and -I64 but after a short time you tune it out and enjoy the waterway. Paddling under Jefferson... More
