On our vacation to the mountains of Virginia we stumbled on this museum. At first glance it looked like a southern plantation home with some books and other things in the entrance room. Once inside the museum we walked corridors filled with all kinds of war things. The museum spanned the owners lifetime and then some. He has spent the... More

I've never before seen such a complete and unbiased presentation of Civil War, not only as it pertained to New Market but to all the states inveigled. And they pay tribute to the other wars America has fought in also. We spent several hours in there and still felt like we could have stayed longer.

A great way to spend some time inside and learn about the military history of this country - more than just the Civil war. This place sits up on a hill just past the Day's Inn and is a separate business from the Virginia Civil War Museum further on up the road. There is fee and it is well worth... More

This is a very nice museum with LOTS of information and things that we had not seen in other museums. My husband and I like to read everything and my only complaint is that there was just too much information for us. That is not a bad thing though because even though the main focus was on the Civil War,... More

Nice displays of all Civil War battlefields . Also had displays of Vietnam and WWII as well . We really enjoyed the history . The only negative is it would of been nice to see a little more about the New Market battlefield . We enjoyed this site much more than the one up the road from it .

This is a must see museum. We have never seen so many authentic pieces. The staff was quite knowledgeable and very friendly. We're so glad we stopped here before wasting our money at the Virginia museum of the Civil War aka New Market State Historical Park.

This is the site of and 1864 Confederate victory highlighted by the participation of Virginia Military Institute cadets, who suffered very high losses, in driving back the United States forces. The site is now operated by the State of Virginia and the museum contains exhibits about the Battle of New Market and the Civil War in general. There is an... More

Start your visit with the 45 minute film "Field of Lost Shoes" in the theater which high lights the Civil War battle of New Market that the brave boys of VMI charged into. Interesting capsulated time line exhibit of the entire Civil War....with artifacts and audio presentations. Some of the maps and signage needs replacing due to guest wear. In... More

Small museum with some cool items. Civil War enthusiasts will enjoy. I've always enjoyed my visits to Gettysburg, but know so little about other battles. I enjoyed walking through the house and on the battlefield. We missed the reenactment by one week! Anyway, interesting how the battle was won by cadets. I learned something and explored.... Good visit!!!!
