We spent about a half day at Mombacho while in Granada. We were able to take a bus from Granada to the entrance to the reserve for less than $0.50 USD each. After getting off the bus, there are a lot of moto-taxi drivers offering to take you to the entrance. They were relatively cheap, but the hike in wasn't... More

We loved the Puma trail and seeing wildlife, fauna and flora. Plus the vapor holes, views of the Isletas, and catching views of about 30 white faces monkeys in the tree above on a trail!

We hiked the 4 km Puma trail which was most challenging even though we are in good shape. Basically 4 km up and down four craters. Some trails were very steep and slippery so while it did not take us 4 hours it did take almost 3 and we were moving very fast in the end due to pounding rain.... More

We took a tour by Tierra Tours, and Carlos was our guide. Carlos was amazing, full of great information and very personable. The volcano itself was beautiful, the Eco system on this sleeping giant was astonishing. We did take the longer 4-5 hour tour, which was perfect. It gavemichtime for contemplation and admiration of the beauty that surrounded us.

We took a tour led by Tierra Tours. Ramon was our guide. I would recommend him. He was laid back but also full of information about plants, birds, animals and the volcano. The flora and fauna on the volcano were just beautiful.

Dissapointed easy trail on an active volcano. However, incredible views of Masaya Volcano-Laguna de Apoyo-Granada-Isletas Too expensive for tourists: USD 15 to take a car up, and not nice to walk all the way up

Maybe if there were more insight the contributions this places makes to a larger eco-system or why it is significant to Nicaragua, it would have been a more interesting excursion. Instead, our guide Fernando (Barcelo Tours) stops us mid-hike us to quiz us on how many plants were growing on one particular tree, or invites us to warm out hands... More

And we had a clear day - it is an amazing tour - the howler monkey were hooting the birds were chipping and the volcano was burping under our feet -

I had a great time during a night tour of this volcano. Definitely the best tour I had! I was able to get close to the magma, and took a tour through bat caves. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous

You have to do this if spending any time in Granada. It was lashing rain when we went up but still gorgeous. The guide was very helpful and friendly and talked to us the entire time. Bumpy ride up and down but a fascinating insight into the lives of the people along the way. Good fun!
