Mt. Vernon is a full day trip, there are certain things going on at certain times so you might miss out if your not there at that time. There is a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes. Sun block if its a sunny day. Very educational. There is an expensive restaurant and they also have a food court. You... More

While this is a must see attraction, it has obviously become a business to line people up and get them through. We were given tickets to go through at a certain time, but ended up standing in line to walk through the main floor of the house: as we stood in each room, the tour guide gave his brief explanation... We had no choice but to visit on Memorial Day Weekend, which meant we faced not only weekend crowds, but also the busloads of students mentioned in other posts. We did not find them to be particularly obnoxious but having so many middle-school-aged students in one place (that age group seemed to predominate) is always challenging. The staff could have... I felt transported back in time, I feel so grateful of been part of this country. I think everyone should go visit Washington's State. Not only is full of history, but it's also full of great things to do! Really recommend it for "quality family time"

If you like flowers, beautiful views, superb and unique gardens, learning, and an overwhelming sense of history then get over the crowds. That comes with the territory or visit in early December. This is my 4th visit the second for my wife and first for my 18 yr old niece and her mother. All thought it was a great experience... More

My husband and I visited in early April. There is so much more to see at Mount Vernon than you would think. The grounds are large and beautifully kept. The house continues to be worked on and restored, and there are outbuildings, exhibits, animals, and a visitor center to be explored. We also took the boat tour up the Potomac.... More

We visited May 22 in the midst of the crowds of obnoxious school kids. We had perfect weather and the grounds were lovely, but there were such long lines that they rushed us through the house in 10 minutes. Definitely not long enough to soak it all in, or even ask questions of their very well-informed docents. They wouldn't even... More

I have always wanted to visit here, since I love history. The house is well kept and the grounds are beautiful. Buy your tickets online and avoid the lines. You can also buy boat ride tickets and other special tours also. The boat ride was about 30mins but you can get a great picture of the house from the boat.... More

Hadn't been in years and really enjoyed the new visitor center. The guides were most helpful. The gift shop was ideal.
