The title of this review says it all!!! Lots to do and the views are awesome! Even if you do not have a boat to go out on, it's an area to travel to see. Fortunately for me, I have friends with a boat and we went out for a ride late one evening and experienced an unbelievable sunset! Some... More

We've had a home on SML for 15 years and have been living here full time for four. Having traveled much of the globe seeking a place equally beautiful, I can say that this is definitely one of the nicest places on the planet! The water is amazingly clear - you can typically see 10' or more into it if... More

Very large hydro-electric lake (the level never changes much, so houses can be right up to the water's edge) about thirty minutes or so from the Lynchburg, Virginia, airport. Many beautiful houses--as well as pontoon and other motor boats--are available to rent. Try to avoid really busy weekends like Memorial Day, when the houses are full and it can be... More

First, while fueling the boat BOB (the manager) spilled fuel in the back of the boat area. My husband stated dont waist that gas! the comment from the management was "U can afford it" Second, docked at parrot cove I was accused of being racist, by the manager again! screaming and pointing his finger in my face. All around just... More

I am a native of the lake area, and can highly recommend it! The area is safe, beautiful, clean. The lake is 500 miles of shoreline , and covers 22,000 acres . The surrounding area is the farm land, and then local native are honest , friendly and very neighborly. The lake is clean and beautiful and usually is not... More

We loved the lake and the amenities offered for such a low cost. We rented a pontoon boat for a single day and were quite satisfied with our visit.

SML is a big lake....can get busy on holiday weekends though. Make sure you take a map with you to prevent getting lost.

I know many people who live there. Great fishing, boating, skiing, sailing. Several state records for fish are from this lake, especially fresh water stripers. It's a hydroelectric lake with pump back system. It's the second largest lake in Virginia with over 500 miles of shoreline. The state park is a great vacation destination with cabins and camp sites available.... More
