This was such an awesome surprise, my nine year old and I had a great visit! The exhibits are very kid friendly with a lot of opportunity for hands on interaction.

A small place with a huge capability to teach! Certainly a place to go with the kids, or just you! A lot of tiny pieces give to you a little bit of our long history. At the right a frog skeleton, and it left a dinosaur, and upon your head a whale!

My daughter and I have been here several times, and will go back for various of their programs in the future. We both like dinosaurs, and the museum has a surprisingly good display of them, as well as other prehistoric life. (Look for the life-sized Ground Sloth just inside the entrance) The staff always is friendly and helpful, and my... More

Tyaskin - We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the museum. We have added several displays of various dinosaurs and other materials during the past year, and it has been great to see the positive reactions of our visitors. 'Clawd', the giant ground sloth that greats visitors in the lobby, recently spent several months on loan... More

The museum has working scientists and a very good selection of exhibits dealing with the local area. Good layout for children.

This is a beautifully made building and the displays are nice. I would have liked to have seen more staff around, perhaps to answer questions. My husband and I stopped by on our way to Roanoke--reasonable price and worth a visit....

If you like dinosaurs, this is the place to go. Kids will enjoy the many hands-on activities as well as seeing a dinosaur move and roar. There are also other exhibits on the natural habitats of native Virginia animals and even their fossils.

What a fantastic State museum! Martinsville is a very small town (pop. ~13,000), but this museum is on par with natural history museums one would expect to find in much larger cities. Its permanent exhibits are exciting and showcase beautifully Virginia's fossil history. The travelling exhibits are fresh and often geared toward young children. There is an admission fee, though... Our son visited with his 3-year-old twins. A boy that age is naturally in a dinosaur phase. The visit was thoroughly enjoyable and made quite an impression.

My husband and I have been wanting to take our grandson, Justin to the Special Exhibit on display currently at the Museum of the Dinosaurs, Dinosaur Discovery. Upon our entrance to the Museum and seeing the mighty Acrocanthosaurus to the plant-eater Tenontosaurus, followed by the interactive dinosaur-themed maze for visitors of all ages...we were captivated!! There are life-size casts of... More
