This park is basically an island of wilderness and Potomac shoreline within an endless ocean of cookie-cutter housing development, car dealerships, and failing strip malls. But that makes it a nice local getaway.

This is a major wintering spot for bald eagles. I've seen them in the summer but according to park rangers there could be more than a hundred of them spending the winter, so that would be your best chance to see them.

No entry fee if you have a VA handicapped plaque - nice tree lined drive in to the park and great views over Belmont bay from the river front trails – where the Occoquan river flows in to the Potomac. Lots of easy trails, can’t wait for the renovation of the Bay view trail to be completed. Do stay on... More

Great park with lots of trails. Most seem to be a bit over a mile and really well maintained so they are easy to walk with little ones. There's lots of wildlife by the shore and some great teaching opportunities with kids who want to explore. Some of the trails by the beach are under construction currently so you can... More

We've been visiting Mason Neck for over 10 years now, and find that there's something here for just about everyone: good hiking trails, canoeing & kayaking, birding, biking, special events/programs, and courteous, helpful rangers. There are good views of the bay, nice woodland trails, and a neat nature center with interesting exhibits for kids & adults. There are clean, well-maintained... More

We enjoyed a great walk with the kids today, and saw dozens of eagles. What a great find! They have a nice room in the visitor center for the kids. We can't wait to go back when it's a little warmer outside!

This park was wonderful. A friend and I went kayaking in the early morning on a Saturday. The water was like glass, and the shoreline teemed with egrets and eagles. This is a great park to hike through, have a picnic, or rent a canoe or kayak. I would highly recommend this for any nature enthusiast.
