If Civil War research is your avocation, you will find many books & other records pertaining to the CW (from both the Union and the Confederate points of view) at the Balch. I was there to follow my genealogy in the Virginia/West Virginia areas but couldn't help but be impressed with the CW records. One of the staff, Stephanie (a... More

We went to the Balch library looking for information on some specific family genealogy that has been difficult to find. The amount of reference material was amazing and we spent an entire day there and could have spent more time. What really made a difference was the staff. They were engaged and genuinely interested in helping find traces of these... More

Two blocks from the main intersection of Leesburg, the Balch Library is a testament to the importance of space dedicated to intellectual pursuits. The library houses a good collection of contemporary fiction and non-fiction books as well as numerous newspapers and periodicals. There are enough computers for those making connections on the Internet also. The Balch collection specializes in historical... More

This is a lovely library with pieces of Leesburg and Loudoun County History! It's worth some time visiting the library and just talking to their wonderfully engaging staff.

The Library not only has Virginia research material, but also many other states, as well. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. There are many useful databases, including Ancestry and Genealogy Bank. It is well worth your time to visit!

I love libraries. Books, quietness... a respite from the outside world. I visited the Balch Library to simply work on a book I'm writing. It's a beautifully-appointed library with a nice selection of reading and reference materials. There are no kids running around in the Balch library because I don't believe that it is allowed to have any shred of... More

This is an amazing library setting, with artwork that depicts major historical milestones of the local area. I coordinated a group program here on geneology for one of my organizations and the staff was very welcoming and instructional. They provided handouts as well as hands on resources for researching one's "roots." I've also gone back to attend their public talks... More

We wandered in here with just an hour to spare. I have family roots in Leesburg. The librarian located two cemeteries where my ancestors are buried and even found plot numbers for me. He also located a family will and a newspaper article. I will definitely be back and allocate more time.
