This is a very well maintained park. It has a great beach area for swimming and playing in the sand. They also rent many types of boats so you can explore the lake, to include: pontoon boats, kayaks and canoes. We went on Memorial Day weekend but it wasn't crazy or packed with people. The park also has at least... More

This is a wonderful place to bring the kids. There's a good food bar, sand white beaches with life-guard and nature trails. It's available by boat or car. We like to go by boat once or twice with grandkids for variety. It's centrally located, the water is warm and clear with heavily enforced no-wake areas all around making it always... More

went on two hiking trails. lakeview trail was short and very easy. benches and picnic tables along the way. could see the osprey nest from the walk but couldn't get too close. turtle island trail was considered moderate but wasn't bad at all, just a couple of minor inclines so wasn't too bad at all. once out to the island... I loved this place! I went here a few weekends ago just for something to do. It was suggested by someone I knew, and although they went on and on about how great it was, nothing prepared me for what I saw. The scenery was breathtaking. Around every corner was an incredible view waiting to be discovered. The hiking trails,... More

Last minute get away for valentines weekend , call the reservations line and this was the only cabin available within 3 hours of Charlottesville. We had very low expectations but were so pleasantly surprised when we are arrived. We had arranged for a late check in the cabin was cozy, warm clean when we arrived it was simple and perfect.... We had booked a cabin here for September 22 - September 26. Price was great, all seemed well. Our friend even asked about cancellation since my wife's Mom was sick when we booked in July. The problem is we did not check all the fine print to discover what the policy actually was. Yes it is all there in black... More

We visited SML State Park on Oct. 7th. We were able to rent bikes from the Visitor's Center. We spent about 3 hours riding on all the paved roadways throughout the park and had a picnic lunch near the amphitheater. There was a picnic table right next to the lake. We basically had the park to ourselves as we were... More

We rented a pontoon from a marina by the bridge. It was a great way to see the lake and the many beautiful homes along the lake.

Nice getaway at Smith Mountain Lake. This was our second time visiting. The first time our cabin was just on a camp road. This time we paid a little more and got a lake front cabin. Great view of the water. We had a deck on the back and campfire overlooking the lake. The non-lakefront cabins don't have a deck,... More
