The Homestead is so steeped in history. A magnificant property with a storiied past. Now an Omni property, improvements to the physical plant are underway. The staff is very attentive and there is so much to do. We were surprised at the number of families with very small children - all well behaved I might add. If you do visit,... More

Our family loves the Homestead! We go often in the summer, fall, and winter. Summer time allows us to enjoy the pool, slides, and outdoor hiking. In the fall we go for the leaf color change and golf. Winter time brings out the best in holiday decorations at The Homestead. So beautiful!!!!!!! It's a tradition for our family to take... More

This is a lovely location and very historic site for sure but it takes a GPS degree to find because it is not easy to get to. If you like seclusion and just relaxing then this is your spot. Much to do but all at a high cost and bringing children will increase that as most everything is meant for... More

We just returned from a Family vacation with our two young adult children. While the Hotel is lovely, and the grounds meticulously maintained, I strongly recommend NOT doing the inclusive meal plan. Breakfast buffet is fine but we did not experience anything close to a fine dining experience for any of our three dinners. The food off the menu was... More

The buildings and grounds were lovely. We were there for a wedding so our time was pretty much accounted for the entire weekend we were there. Our room was wonderful and even had a large comfortable balcony with soft seating. Unfortunately we had very little time to enjoy it. Resort fees were ridiculous as we had all preplanned events. Food... More

This impressive resort is located in beautiful rural Virginia and has hosted several sitting American presidents and dignitaries. It's unusual in that if offers a wide array of outdoor entertainment such as horse back riding, canoeing, hiking, and falconry in addition to more standard things like golf and tennis. The resort is a throwback to the southern gentry of the... More

I am torn because we really love the Homestead. We have been twice and enjoyed both times immensely. The rooms are fine and had no issues at all. It does need some repairs to the common areas (sidewalks, leaking pipes, etc). For what you are paying to stay and do the activities, my expectation is that everything should be in... More

Most reviews we read ahead of time were spot on for this resort. Will we return? Maybe. We had beautiful weather for our three night July stay and were happy the resort was not crowded. Pools would not have been relaxing if resort was more crowded. Grounds were beautiful and hiking was good. Housekeeping staff prompt and friendly. We learned... More

Our passion are grand hotels. Most are located in remote areas, as is this. But for most, the hotel's classic architecture is what makes it a grand hotel, along with its historical legacy, once again as is this. But what sets The Homestead apart from most others is it offers guests all the amenities of a full scale modern resort,... More

Sadly, much has changed since purchase by Omni. Call resort 7x to get info re dining reservation; food not nearly as good as in 30 years of continuous visits & front desk attitude poor. Disappointing.
