We spent two nights at Westmoreland State Park over Memorial Day weekend in 2015. I include the details about the holiday weekend, as our experience was likely very different than you might have during less-busy times of the year. We had cabin 16, which is a two-bedroom unit. My ratings and comments are centered on the lodging -- NOT the... More

I first visited the park more than fifty years ago as a kid and had wanted to return to see the fossils. The park has miles of incredibly well marked trails that wind through Coastal Plain forests and wetlands, and includes a great boardwalk, but the real standouts are Horse Head Cliff with its sweeping views of the Potomac and... Great park with amenities. The location is convenient for day trips to historic sites and close enough to the wine trail Ranger told us our tent had to be moved to the crushed stone. That is fine but I wish he had returned after midnight to tell the partners in site b to go to bed. Please enforce all the... More

This park was well maintained and staffed. Went several times and each time the place was clean, lots of staff present. Has a great pool also.

Stayed here with our motor home. Many large pull through sites. Weekdays are quiet and weekends are busy. Nice clean sites with space between. Lots of great hiking as well as a large pool and water activities in the Potomac. Cabins look spacious and restful but never stayed in one. Tent sites looked private with vegetation for privacy. Bathrooms were... More

We loved our stay at Westmoreland State Park and have already booked a cabin to go again! We went in the off season, so did not swim in the large pool or the beach along the Potomac, but we did have a blast on the trails, at fossil beach and birdwatching. The cabins are cinderblock design and not modern. They... More

We stayed in two different cabins in the past year and had a great time, hiking, looking for shark teeth, cooking out. But both times one bedroom of the cabin (two different cabins on two different months) smelled like someone had just pee'd onto the wall behind the dresser. It smelled so bad that the bedroom could not be used.... More

VaStateParks, Guest Relations Manager at Westmoreland State Park, responded to this review

The guest admits they did not contact us about the smell problem in either cabin nor do they provide a time frame so it is difficult to respond. We can assure you that staff were not responsible for causing the problem and in a cabin that allows pets it is strange that would be their conclusion. Our staff have since... More

Westmoreland State Park is located in the Northern Neck of Virginia. During our visit, we walked the Fossil Beach trail (about .45 miles one way) to pan for fossils. We did not find any but the ice covered sticks in the Potomac River gave the illusion of water fowl. It was high tide so not much beach walking could be... More
