We stayed at the Lake Campground at Douthat. The lake is gorgeous and the campground does boast some beautiful views. The downside to this campground is that there is not a great of privacy-- except for a few sites, one of which we grabbed, think it was #8-- and if you are on the inside of the main loop you... We are a family of 18 people....every year we rent the lodge on the mountain. Would be a nice place if it was properly cleaned. In bad need of updates!! Let's start with cleanliness...bathrooms are terrible, leaking commode seals....water barely drips out of shower, and reaks of urine. The bedrooms are terrible...I do believe the matresses never have been replaced...AND... More

This review was posted 11 months after the visit. However, I can unequivocally state that we have never had bed bugs in any cabin at Douthat State Park. We have an aggressive bed bug control program throughout all of our parks and any concern is followed up with a trip from our exterminator. This is the first we have heard... More

Stayed in the White Oak Campground. Very nice sites with electric and water. Looked like brand new bathrooms. Very clean every day. So much to do here. Beach area was very nice. Very spread out so you have to drive to get around. Everything you could ask for in a campground.

Ok, I know other people who have gone here and stayed in these cabins year after year. Left early due to mice infestation in our cabin, huge spiders, and insects galore. We were also told our cabin would have a full size sofa bed and two twins, as it was also advertised to accommodate 4 people. It only had 3... More

We are very proactive at handling complaints and issuing refunds. While it is hard to tell since there is no name, I am pretty sure we have not received this complaint. I can say that we have multiple sleeping arrangements in our cabins and our website and online reservation system specifies what beds each cabin has. We are also very... More

This is a wonderful park to visit. The trails are good for short hikes. The tenting is well placed. The beach has a good balance of shade and sun.

We stayed in White Oak camping area within Douthat State Park which boasted a very new bathroom/shower facility that was immaculate. Some of the sites were pull-through and others were back in. This section is non-reservable which means you register and pay, then just go choose a site that you like. There was another area of reservable sites that also... More

Took my 2 boys for a quick 2 day 1 night adventure. We canoed, fished, hiked, had a fire and of course made smores. They had a blast catching salamanders and newts in the lake. Very family friendly atmosphere and great time of the year to go. Was not crowded and the weather was awesome. Definitely going back

When driving through the mountains of Virginia we thought, "it would be neat to hike up one of those.". Douthat State Park allowed that very opportunity. The hiking didn't disappoint. $4 all day admission per vehicle paid via envelope/honor system. Restrooms and maps in the visitors' center. Wear long pants and sturdy boots.

My family has chosen Douthat State Park's large covered picnic pavilion for my son's after-rehersal picnic. Can hold all 103 family members. Kids can play, teens can pedal boat and hike, GenXers can FB from closeby and Seniors can relax. Grills included, easy clean up and the wedding couple can have some space. Inexpensive too. Hasnt happened yet but you... More
