First time we'd stayed in their cabins & were delighted to find them SO VERY clean & neat & well maintained! It was very cold outside & the heating system was older but it kept it warm & nice. The fireplace was wonderful and had a good draw & kept the living room and dining room/kitchen very warm also. We... More

It has cabins that are old on the outside and modern on the inside. The cabins come with everything you need for a stay. There are lodges with individual rooms and primitive camp sites. A small boating lake and a good looking beach. Many hiking trails and some horse trails. This park is not on the beaten path. It is... More

My friends have been bugging me for years to join them on this annual camping/hiking trip and I finally gave in this year, joining them the 3rd weekend in October. For a city girl like me who has never camped before, it definitely was a bit of a shock at first when you see the rustic cabin (we stayed in... More

This park is beyond breath taking. Luscious forests, beautiful campsites, beach, cabins, and hiking trails everywhere. Maticulously maintained and the staff is pleasant. Restaurant is quaint with decent food Loved our vacation and would highly recommend it.

My husband and I went to Douthat State Park at the end of September. We stayed in one of the cabins. It had everything you could possibly need and more, like an indoor fireplace, a fire pit outside, rocking chairs on the porch, shower refrigerator and microwave. They even start you with a complimentary bundle of wood. We had a... More

No Phone No TV No Radio If you need a BREAK from the hustle and bustle of the BIG CITY then come to Douthat. If you rent a cabin you must realize that there is NO PHONE, NO TV, and NO RADIO in the cabins. If you really feel the need to be entertained then I would suggest a portable... More

Ever since I was young I loved this place. One of best lakeside beaches around, located in mountains in all directions, great clear lake to row boat on. Lots of camp sites and cabins for rent year around. Restaurant beside lake with old large dining room with stone fireplace, or eat on enclosed porch or just eat outside on lakeside... More

Spent a week at the Whispering Pines campground at Dothat state park- our 2d visit. We have a pop up and we like Whispering Pines- it's a good mile or so outside the park, but it's quiet, the sites are big and it's right near the creek. My kids spend hours wading in the creek looking for critters. The lake... More

We stayed a the White Oak campground, adjacent to the park office. There are numerous trails for hiking, mountain biking and horses. We had a great time on those, including a nice trail around the nearby lake. Note: lots of harmless northern water snakes around the dam water release area at the base of the dam. We were originally going... More

Over the past nine years that our family has lived in Lexington, Virginia we have camped at Douthat State Park at least twice a year...sometimes in the campgrounds, other times in the cabins. The tent sites are well-maintained and all have water & electric hook-ups as well as a central bathroom facility. The cabins vary according to when they were... More
