Description: Captain Barry'sBack Bay Cruise is an INTERACTIVE skill building...
Captain Barry'sBack Bay Cruise is an INTERACTIVE skill building experience. We are a floating classroom, a research vessel with HANDS-ON FEET-WET lessons. One of the many things we do is get off the boat on the sandbars to go DIG IN THE MUD FOR CLAMS. Maybe we can catch some to eat. Then it's back on the boat to cruise to a crabbing spot where you will Pull CRAB-POTS on board to identify and see the days catch. If you have the courage I will teach you how to HOLD A CRAB without getting pinched. Navigating our way to Shell Island Beach, we stop and get off the boat for some SHELL COLLECTING than back on the boat for Capt. Barry's favorite activity... hunting for jellyfish. we will then HAUL in the trawler net and will see that it is full of Marine life and sea creatures.... this is always a challenge! Time to slow the boat down to enter the shallow waters.... how many birds can you identify? we use all of our senses-SOUND,TOUCH,TASTE and SMELL- to make our cruises informative and fun. They are is never any pressure always lots of fun.. you can relax, sit back on the boat and be the official photographer, or you can get into it. This is the real deal to get your hands dirty and feet wet so you will experience the life of a Chincoteague Waterman.

We made the trip from Richmond knowing our kids love crabbing & having heard great things about Captain Barry's adventures; we were not disappointed!! Kids had a blast and we all learned a lot. It's evident that Captain Barry loves his job. He may look like a pirate, but he's an enthusiastic teacher at heart.

We had a wonderful cruise with Captain Barry. We had a relaxing tour of the bay and learned about the wildlife and the history of the island.

Captain Barry was amazing! We visited the island for just 2 days, and I wanted to let my boys experience going around on a boat, but I didn't think they would enjoy 2 hours of sitting still and looking at ponies on the shore. With Barry, they got to hop on and off the boat, explore the nearby islands, check... More

We family of 6 (kids 9, 7, 3 and 2) spent a perfect afternoon on the bay with captain Barry! The kids loved finding fiddler crabs, oysters, muscles and blue crabs. It was a beautiful day to enjoy the bay and Captain Barry made the trip interactive and enjoyable. The kids were able to help bring in traps and also... More

We took a tour with Capt. Barry last August as a family of four-- a 3 year old, a 10 year old, and two adults. All of us had an amazing time. Unlike the other tours, Barry stops at various small islands and really teaches you about the local ecosystem. He has a big personality and is amazing with everyone.... More

We had a fantastic time. He is engaging for all personality types. There is so much information he has to share. The more you want to learn, the more he teaches. The potty on board is a hoot too. We are homeschoolers and don't often engage with adults who understand how much information that our kids can actually absorb--------------he got... More

My 7 year old reluctantly boarded Captain Barry's, very nervous about going out over water. The Captain handled his nerves with the perfect amount of respect and encouragement, and in no time at all, my boy was jumping off the boat to explore shell covered islands, duck blinds, wetlands, and jumping back on with a cry of "faster, Captain!" and... we took a sunset cruise and let me tell you that Captain Barry was the best. He made us feel right at home. Educational and relaxing. What made this boat experience is the interactiveness and just Barry's love for his job. You can tell he loves everything about his job from the birds to incredible stories about the island and... We had the boat to ourselves with Captain Barry, like a private tour. It was fun and educational. Our kids enjoyed it as much as us. We made several stops with hands on learning examining clams, oysters, mussels, birds. Captain Barry is engaging and entertaining.

Capt. Barry was terrific. He had our kids laughing and asking questions, learning and enjoying it! We saw so much in a short time, but it was interactive too. My kids have declared his tour was the best thing from our trip to Chincoteague and have asked if we come again next year. But the adults had fun too, and... More
