Pony rides

A must stop for our grand daughters every summer. For a small amount they can ride a Chincoteague pony and help support there care and well being. A great gift shop also.

We decided at the last minute to visit the rustic town of Chincoteague during their annual pony crossing, in 2014. Since the event is well attended, housing accommodations were limited. We stayed in a modest cabin at the end of the island, which was less than desirable. But what we did enjoy and experienced made up for what the cabin... More

Our granddaughter took a riding lesson ( which we booked in advance to insure the time we wanted). She has had lessons before and the instructor based this lesson upon that. She was able to do some things she hadn't done before, not just a basic new rider lesson, one based upon her previous experience. Everyone here was very friendly... More

The wild ponies on Assateague are AMAZING. However, they are also WILD. We pointed out to our kids the signs about not trying to pet them. Such close pony proximity can be too much for two kids (and their momma) to stand without some scratching of soft chin hairs, breathing in the hay-scented mane and looking deep into those brown... We happened upon this place on our way out of town, just because we were driving around the island. This is probably as close to the ponies are you are going to get, as they have some in a paddock. We saw 3 or 4 new foals with their mothers and a few others as well. The gift shop is... More

I went with my sister, parents and her 3 year old and we had a blast. Not course we are all fans of the Chincoteague ponies (I'm named after Misty.) we purchased a few items and then let my niece ride a descendant of Misty!!! She got a ribbon for riding and we all had a wonderful time talking to... More

Let me be honest. This is mainly a gift shop, if you enter the "Center" you will find yourself surrounded by souvenirs and very few of them cheap. Lots and lots and LOTS of children's souvenirs. Parents, you have been warned. We went for the first time last year and were very taken by surprise when we walked inside with... More

Grandchildren ages 9 and 11 signed up for riding lessons ($40 half hour). Held in large building in back. Instructor was excellent with the kids, encouraging, teaching, giving them many different things to do according to their comfort level. We loved watching. Received large Winner ribbon at end. They loved their experience! They take up to 150 lbs to ride.... More

Stopped in on our first day to get acquainted and look around. Arranged for a riding lesson on one of the ponies for our granddaughter. They are only doing that on weekends when were there so the lesson was the last thing we did on Chincoteague. She thoroughly enjoyed the lesson and looking at the other ponies at least one... More
