We limit our trips to only 6 passengers per boat, to maintain a semi-private setting, and allow for plenty of face time with your guide. With our two boats, we are able to accommodate groups up to 12. Local family owned and operated, your guide will be Captain Dan or his father Captain Ray. Our signature tour, the “Around the Island Tour”, is a family favorite. This trip has it all! We cruise over 25 miles of unique coastline, never passing the same spot twice. We go searching for wild ponies, dolphin, bald eagles (and other local wild fowl), sea turtles, and sting rays. Your captain is your guide, pointing out all the local wildlife, historic areas, and explaining the local customs and cultures, both past and present. We will travel completely around Chincoteague Island, while viewing the entire bayside coastline of Assateague Island in Virginia. During inclement weather, trip routes may be modified for safety or comfort of guests.

Pleasant 2.5 plus hour boat ride around Chincoteague Island. We saw the northern and southern groups of wild ponies as well as numerous birds. Our captain was pleasant and knowledgable and was very kind to our 2 young children. He answered all our questions and stopped many times so that we could take in the views and wildlife. Highly recommend... More

We booked the "guaranteed tour", and were not disappointed! The entire tour was one of historical information that can only be provided by a "Local"! Captain Dan's family tree is traced back to the Revolutionary War on the ship *Deliverance* - Ask him how that service was rewarded in Chincoteague! The education was not only about the ponies, but about... More

It was a picture perfect day with an excellent Captain and guide, saw one band of southern herd ponies and it was Rip Tides band, Saw a bald eagle, pelican and oyster catchers. Then went up and saw Puzzles band in the northern herd. Such a wealth of knowledge and I will go on this boat tour again. So much... More

Book this trip well in advance of your arrival to Chincoteague. We arrived on a Sunday and the first available tour was on the following Sunday. We were greeted at the dock by Captain Dan himself, who is a very knowledgable friendly guy. The tour is limited to 6 passengers which allows for a tailored experience. Upon boarding and introductions... More

We went with Ray and he was a pleasure. He was very knowledgeable and was a wealth of knowledge about the island. Only 6 people were on our cruise which made it feel much more intimate as some of the boats from other companies seemed to hold more people. I would highly recommend on your trip (preferably at the beginning)... More

We took the boat tour in the hope of seeing one or two horses and we were greeted by two herds – one on the north end and one on the south end. We got fairly close to the ones on the north end. That`s also where we saw a bald eagle fly past. We saw a myriad of different... More

The sunset cruise with Captain Dan's tours was amazing. We went with Captain Ray, who was a great and very knowledgeable. I very much appreciated that they keep the tours small, six to a boat although they could hold many more. My family of three was joined by another group of three. On the trip we got some history of... More

My family and I took the "Around the Island" tour with Captain Dan. The weather was beautiful. The boat was clean and safe. Captain Dan was fantastic. We had such a good time learning about the area. We have visited Chincoteague several times. This was our first boat tour. I highly recommend touring with Capt Dan to get a whole... More

Our excursion on Captain Dan's Around the Island tour could not have been better. Captain Dan was welcoming and knowledgeable and had tons of background information on the bands of ponies. The tour was both relaxing and informative, and the perfect way to learn about Chincoteague and Assateague. We saw more ponies than we expected as well as two bald... More
