Given we were visiting during the off season, many of the activities on the island weren't available to us. I called and left messages with a few of the outfits that take folks out on boat tours. Happily, I got a call back with availability for the next day. The boat captain was very knowledgeable having grown up on the... More

Remember when you were a kid and everything was so big outside and so clean, the smell of fresh air. Well the places we went on the cruise reminded me of when I was a kid. I always cherished horses as a kid and even though I am a grown up now, it is such a good feeling to know... More

Unlike other places I have seen, very kind people. The boat got us into the best place and I give credit to the nice young fellow driving the boat who answered my questions. We got to go into places like I have never seen. We had only a day planned here and I am glad we did this so we... More

We arrived on Chincoteague Island in the rain and then found out the Government Shutdown closed Assateague Island; we were fearful that our short stay would be a bust. We were only going to be there one night and wanted to make the most of it. We were able to get onto the cruise with a last minute reservation and... More

The Wildlife Cruise was very nice. The "Captain" was a native of Chincoteague Island and was very knowledgeable. Although it was low tide and we could not get very close to the ponies, we did see a LOT of birds and it was a very relaxing ride.

A couple of years ago we took a boat tour off Georgetown, SC. It was amazing -- knowledgeable Captain and crew with a real interest in providing a great experience to the passengers. Assateague Explorer Wildlife Cruises is at the opposite end of the spectrum. The website and printed brochure are misleading and show a close proximity to the horses... More

Captain and mate were knowledgable and personable. Both very experienced in local history and wildlife. Be aware that you can only get as close to the ponies as tidal depth permits, depending on where, or if, they are seen. We were kept at a bit of a distance due to boat size. Kayakers could get much closer. Not much else... More

The horses were feet and the sunset was truly breath-taking, the best I've ever seen! Definitely worthwhile! The crew were some if the friendliest people you will ever meet! I highly recommend it!

"Yeaaaah" being an insider joke for those who already took the tour. We reserved a couple of spots on the 7 pm or sunset cruise despite a disappointing report from our friends. Not really terrible but kinda "meh". The place has 2 pontoon boats, the captain picks one based on the size of the crowd. Seating comfort on par with... More

We took the 2.5 hour evening tour with two guides--not for wimps. They fit us in the same day we made reservations and we were with a larger group, at least 20 kayakers of varying experience. The reservation process is a little strange--they can do nothing from the site and everything must be called in, including credit card numbers. It... More
