My family of 5 greatly enjoyed our time with Captain Charlie. He was fantastic with our children aged 9,10 and 12. I would highly recommend this tour. I agree with the other reviewers! Captain Charlie is the best.

My husband and I and our children who are 8 and 12 had a wonderful time with Captain Charlie. Charlie is friendly and knowledgeable and brings the perspective of a Chincoteague native. We were lucky to see a band of beautiful ponies ( a dream of mine since forever!) and learned about the pony swim. We searched for dolphin, herded... More

We wanted to take this cruise to see the ponies but I actually enjoyed other aspects so much more! Captain Charlie shared all sorts of information about the area, the history, the people, the beauty and the challenges of living in a fragile environment with many competing priorities. Saw a bald eagle, learned about clamming and oystering, ate a fresh... More

Captain Charlie makes this intimate cruise around the islands an awesome experience. The boat was comfortable and Charlie was very friendly, and knowledgeable. We saw wild ponies, birds, and a pod of about fifty dolphins...which was truly amazing! A boat tour with Charlie is like hanging out with a friend. I would recommend this cruise for all who visit the... More

We took our three grandsons, 10, 5, 3. Capt. Charlie kept their interest with showing them how to dig for clams, shuck an oyster, eat a raw oyster. We did see ponies from a distance, but the children were more interested in the shells they collected from Charlie 's secret stash! It was a great trip we all enjoyed. Charlie... More

Capt. Charlie Birch is the best! He is extremely personable and genuinely loves Chincoteague and Assateague. We saw ponies, a bald eagle, and even ate an oyster straight out of his very own oyster bed! His boat is very comfortable too and he really went out if his way to be sure that we could see and learn about as... More

Captain Charlie makes this intimate cruise around the islands completely customized to your family's interests. He is full of great stories and island history. It felt more like riding around on a friend's boat than a 'tour'. He also has some higher railings that add to the safety factor - we were very comfortable bringing our 3 year old twins... More

On July 2, 2014 my husband and I and two teenage sons and 9 year old daughter had the pleasure of taking a cruise with Capt. Charlie Birch. He was very friendly and informative and we felt very at ease on his vessel. His knowledge and love of his native land made this trip very enjoyable. We saw ponies, skates... More

If you can only take one island boat tour, make it this one! Captain Charlie Birch provided an island history lesson while missing nothing that we might have been interested in. He took us right up to the ponies in spite of the shallow waters. His boat is smaller than some of the others which gives a great experience on... More

We booked Captain Charlie's tour because of all the great reviews here. We were so happy we did that! Captain Charlie is a very nice guy who engages with kids so easily. He took us to see the dolphins and ponies. We didn't find any dolphins that day because there's no fish. But we did get to see the ponies!... More
