Description: In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs...
In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty four years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 11:00am - 6:00pm. Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines. Due to our busy harvest season, our winery will not be offering tours August through October. We look forward to your visit.

Friendly winery - with some decent wines and nice art

They have really lovely grounds if you want to bring a picnic and chill for a bit. The tasting room was busy, but the staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

On my recent trip to Monticello I saw a sing for this vineyard. We were early so we decided to see what the vineyard was all about. What a great decision. down in the valley with the Shenandoah Mountains as the backdrop is this nice little vineyard. for a modest fee we tasted 5 reds and 5 whites. the wines... More

My friend and I did the $10 tasting. It was a good value because we got to drink 10 wines and keep the glass - good value. Most of the wines were just ok, but there were a couple worth buying. I was disappointed that they did not have a Chardonay this year. Our server was very nice and very... More

We much appreciate your feedback and visit - thank you. As part of our $10 tasting, we do include a lovely stainless steel Chardonnay. Were you thinking about our Chardonnay Reserve which has more oak? We'll be releasing this one soon. More

Went on a Saturday afternoon as part of a girls' weekend. The tasting room was busy, but not overly crowded. The server was pleasant and personable. The wines weren't bad, but most tasted young. Having said that, we took home a bottle of the Cabernet Franc. The grounds have a small garden and some outdoor seating. The tasting room is... More

Winery was pretty busy. Everything seemed rushed and it was not a relaxing atmosphere. Wines were pretty good my wife and I liked a couple of the reds but did not care much for whites. $10 for 10 wines. No food menu.

Thank you for your visit and review. We're glad you enjoyed our wines. In regards to being "overpriced", can you clarify if you are referring to our wines, or wine tasting fee? Our wines are on par with pricing at other wineries, starting at $17.95, up to $29.95. In regards to wine tastings, we noticed you visited other wineries which... More

Only visit this winery if you like dry wines. They had 1 semi-dry which was as sweet as it gets. They oddly make you pay for your tasting before you even taste, so if you buy a bottle you have to pay twice.

My husband and I visited Jefferson Vineyards as the third and last vineyard during a day of tasting in Charlottesville. Jefferson was our least favorite of the three. The location and grounds are beautiful, but our experience in the main tasting room was extremely confusing. When we walked in, we walked up to an open spot and waited our turn.... More

This is a nice vineyard to visit when the weather is not so hot. The wine tasting is great, but if you want to linger afterward with a glass of wine the indoor seating is limited. All reds good, but my favorite was Cabernet Franc 13, Governors Cup Silver Award winner.

Thank you for your visit and kind words. Did our tasting room representatives mention our second tasting room? This space has air conditioning, indoor seating and is available to our guests. More

We went to the Jefferson Vineyards for a tasting after visiting Monticello and stopping at the Monticello cafe for a GREAT assortment of sandwiches to take with us. (We were going to try SALT, but it was closed.) Anyway, the sandwiches were VERY fresh and delicious, and they had an assortment of other goodies as well -- and very reasonable,... More

After visiting Thomas Jefferson's home-Monticello-We saw this winery and decided to stop in for a tasting. It was a wonderful, delightful surprise. Our hostess was Jan. She walked us through the various wines. Each one was better than the last. Jan explained that Thomas Jefferson had tried to grow grapes and make his own wine back in his day. Little... More
