Description: In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs...
In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty four years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 10:00am - 6:00pm. Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines and a semi-sweet white wine. Brief tours are available at 1:00pm and 2:00pm depending on the season and staff availability. We look forward to your visit.

Winery was pretty busy. Everything seemed rushed and it was not a relaxing atmosphere. Wines were pretty good my wife and I liked a couple of the reds but did not care much for whites. $10 for 10 wines. No food menu.

Thank you for your visit and review. We're glad you enjoyed our wines. In regards to being "overpriced", can you clarify if you are referring to our wines, or wine tasting fee? Our wines are on par with pricing at other wineries, starting at $17.95, up to $29.95. In regards to wine tastings, we noticed you visited other wineries which... More

Only visit this winery if you like dry wines. They had 1 semi-dry which was as sweet as it gets. They oddly make you pay for your tasting before you even taste, so if you buy a bottle you have to pay twice.

My husband and I visited Jefferson Vineyards as the third and last vineyard during a day of tasting in Charlottesville. Jefferson was our least favorite of the three. The location and grounds are beautiful, but our experience in the main tasting room was extremely confusing. When we walked in, we walked up to an open spot and waited our turn.... More

This is a nice vineyard to visit when the weather is not so hot. The wine tasting is great, but if you want to linger afterward with a glass of wine the indoor seating is limited. All reds good, but my favorite was Cabernet Franc 13, Governors Cup Silver Award winner.

Thank you for your visit and kind words. Did our tasting room representatives mention our second tasting room? This space has air conditioning, indoor seating and is available to our guests. More

We went to the Jefferson Vineyards for a tasting after visiting Monticello and stopping at the Monticello cafe for a GREAT assortment of sandwiches to take with us. (We were going to try SALT, but it was closed.) Anyway, the sandwiches were VERY fresh and delicious, and they had an assortment of other goodies as well -- and very reasonable,... More

After visiting Thomas Jefferson's home-Monticello-We saw this winery and decided to stop in for a tasting. It was a wonderful, delightful surprise. Our hostess was Jan. She walked us through the various wines. Each one was better than the last. Jan explained that Thomas Jefferson had tried to grow grapes and make his own wine back in his day. Little... More

Having never visited this part of Virginia before, I was surprised by the large number of vineyards in the area. Jefferson Vineyards was unfortunately the only stop we were able to make due to timing but having visited many west coast vineyards, this was a great fine. The tasting fee of $10 was well worth it compared to some Napa... More

We loved this winery! Their sweet wines are to die for and very knowledgable service with the wines and the area of Charlottesville. Told us other great wineries and where to stay away from. Highly recommend this place.

Our host was Elaine and she was tremendous. It is a smaller tasting room with some very neat original art on the walls. Well worth a stop.

Great little place with a lot of history. I was surprised that the wine was actually good. While it does not compare to most naps valley wineries, it is still good.
