Description: In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs...
In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty four years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 10:00am - 6:00pm. Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines and a semi-sweet white wine. Brief tours are available at 1:00pm and 2:00pm depending on the season and staff availability. We look forward to your visit.

Very nice tasting

Our host was Elaine and she was tremendous. It is a smaller tasting room with some very neat original art on the walls. Well worth a stop.

We loved this winery! Their sweet wines are to die for and very knowledgable service with the wines and the area of Charlottesville. Told us other great wineries and where to stay away from. Highly recommend this place.

Great little place with a lot of history. I was surprised that the wine was actually good. While it does not compare to most naps valley wineries, it is still good.

The Jefferson Vineyards was a nice place to get a glass of wine to have with our picnic. We stopped there after our Monticello tour for a wine tasting. There wines are dry and very good in our opinion. We gave high scores to over half their wine tasting selections. We usually only like a few. Yes, we are picky.... More

Regretfully, we arrived after the last tour of the day had left. In the 90+ degree day we really were not up to drinking much wine at mid afternoon. However they did allow us to split a tasting which worked out very well. The bar tender was very knowledgeable and patient with detailed explanations of the characteristics of the various... More

This was a great stop with interesting history. The wine was great and I live the artwork in the tasting area and on the bottles. The tasting area was a bit small and seemed rushed but they were opening up Another section that would offer some relief. We would definitely go again.

Visit on a nice day, the grounds are lovely, do the tasting, then by a glass or bottle and sit outside.

We recently visited the vineyards, as a way of keeping our party of 8 busy between UVA graduation ceremonies. While the wine tasting was typical, the environment is inviting. It's clear that the idea of the tasting is to encourage people to purchase a bottle or two of Jefferson wines, to enjoy sitting outside on the attractive grounds....and one would... More

Friendly, well informed staff. I did "splashes" of wines I wanted to preview to buy a bottle which they allowed and were helpful. Bought good bottle for home.

I will admit that I have not visited a bunch of wineries, but this place has such a relaxed and inviting atmosphere that of the few wineries that I have been, I love it the most!! The staff are friendly and informative. For $10 you get to taste 8-10 wines, learn about how they are made and take home a... More
