In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty four years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 11:00am - 5:00pm. Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines. Tours are not currently offered. We look forward to your visit.

This was such a fun experience. The servers were knowledgeable and the wines delicious! It was a great experience, one I will return and do again during the spring when you can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The cost to taste test is very reasonable! So if you love wine and want an fun experience on a weekend... More

Jefferson Vineyards is my favorite in Charlottesville! The wine is great and service is even better - I want to give a special mention to Janice who made our visit even more special. What a treasure! So knowledgeable and friendly. Thanks!

We have been wanting to visit Jefferson Vineyards after tasting their wonderful wines at the Mount Vernon Wine Festivals for the past few years. We were not disappointed! The tasting room is a good size, a former stable. The young man who did our tasting was incredibly knowledgeable on the wine and what to pair each with. We were pleasantly... More

Beautiful property and nice tasting room. We just made it in after visiting Monticello and enjoyed a taste of chardonnay. They have lots of comfy chairs outside with great landscape views--perfect for a picnic with a bottle of wine or cheese from the shop.

After completing the Monticello wine trail, I can honestly say that Jefferson Vineyard is still one of my favorite wineries, and the Viognier has to be the best in the state. I always leave with way too many bottles.

Even though we did not do a tasting (super busy), we bought several bottles & enjoyed the wines & views. The winery had plenty of places to sit down & relax. We had a great time here.

We stopped here on a recommendation from our daughter. The wine was great and staff was knowledgeable. We decided after they had already bagged our complimentary glasses to sit outside with a glass of wine; no problem, they poured us what we wanted and sat outside
