Description: In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs...
In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty four years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 11:00am - 5:00pm (Monday through Thursday) and 10:00am - 6:00pm (Friday through Sunday). Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines and a semi-sweet white wine. Brief tours are available at 1:00pm and 2:00pm depending on the season and staff availability. We look forward to your visit.

We recently visited the vineyards, as a way of keeping our party of 8 busy between UVA graduation ceremonies. While the wine tasting was typical, the environment is inviting. It's clear that the idea of the tasting is to encourage people to purchase a bottle or two of Jefferson wines, to enjoy sitting outside on the attractive grounds....and one would... More

Friendly, well informed staff. I did "splashes" of wines I wanted to preview to buy a bottle which they allowed and were helpful. Bought good bottle for home.

I will admit that I have not visited a bunch of wineries, but this place has such a relaxed and inviting atmosphere that of the few wineries that I have been, I love it the most!! The staff are friendly and informative. For $10 you get to taste 8-10 wines, learn about how they are made and take home a... More

We enjoyed the vineyard. Very nice wines for your special dinner. Must say they have some of the best whites I have tasted. Hope to stock up on some more when we return.

We found this place by coinsedence. We tasted about ten wines and the woman pouring was very very professional and fun. For us as an european this was not the best place for wine tasting, but still was part of our trip.

We visit Charlottesville anywhere from 1-3 times a year. And every time we visit Jefferson Vineyards. The wines are consistently delightful, the staff is friendly and really know their wines, and the view can't be beat. If going on the weekend, we recommend getting there soon after they open. There are a LOT of the large vans that come through... More

We visited on a rainy Saturday afternoon and were warmly welcomed in the tasting room. Sandy, our wine guide, was EXCEPTIONAL! She took her time, explained things in an understandable way - and was able to deal expertly with different levels of experience by the people in our group. She was absolutely a pleasure and we loved the tasting experience.... More

I wanted to get to a winery for some tasting on this trip and Jefferson Vineyards was an ideal location. Back from our visit to Monticello and on our way to our rental, this certainly fit the bill. We met with a wonderful woman who took her time describing the different wines and what to feel, smell, and taste from... More

This was our first time visiting Jefferson Vineyards and even tasting their wine. We came in with tickets for their specialty tasting of their Meritage wines, which they offered in the form of a vertical tasting to highlight and compare several years worth of select Meritage bottling's. The tasting included a guided tour with the vineyards winemaker and then two... More

Easy to locate as it is right off the road between Monticello and Ash Lawn. Don't let the exterior of the buildings disappoint. Friendly multiple bartenders in the tasting room. For $10 we got a glass and a taste of all their wines. If you wanted to try some again, you could do so. Three wines carry pretty artistic labels... More
