Description: In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs...
In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty four years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 11:00am - 5:00pm (Monday through Thursday) and 10:00am - 6:00pm (Friday through Sunday). Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines and a semi-sweet white wine. Brief tours are available at 1:00pm and 2:00pm depending on the season and staff availability. We look forward to your visit.

Great visit with a Great "Bartender"

I love coming to Jefferson Vineyards for its great wine, friendly service, and convenient location. On multiple occasions, I have brought unexpected guests to this winery because it is so easy to get to and they have convenient hours (10am to 6pm). Most recently I was here on a weekend wine tour that started at 10am. Our driver informed us... More

Went on a beautiful first Saturday of spring. Wine was delicious and if you have a UVA alumni card you receive two free tastings. It was crowded but we still tasted quickly. Had Narah as our bartender and she was great. Taught us a lot about the wine and made our trip truly enjoyable. We had done three wineries that... More

Nice people that work there, but the wines were a little raw for us. 7-8 tastes on the ticket. No wine glass souvenir.

Dear Ginger F. Thanks for your feedback. We noticed you visited our winery on the excellent Winter Wonderland Passport program, purchased at a participating vineyard. We do give wine glasses as a souvenir to take home with you. If you are still in the neighborhood, please let me know at attila@jeffersonvineyards.com and I'll wrap two of them up for you. More

Our wine tasting crew stopped here recently for a visit on what was a beautiful Spring day. We had heard good things about this winery, so we were looking forward to our visit. The vineyard itself doesn't sit on a particularly impressive piece of land, and the tasting room itself lacks any sort of ambiance with bottle racks placed in... More

Thank you for visiting our winery and taking time to provide us with feedback. I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy your visit. I have noted your comments about the delay in your wine tasting and will talk to our managers about this and how we may improve. In regards to our tasting fee, we price it at... More

Really nice and convenient place to stop on any trip to Charlottesville, other wineries are very close by - and they're only a few minutes from downtown. This was our first really great winery experience. The staff member that helped us put us at ease, and really opened us up to feeling comfortable about tastings (At first you expect you... More

Having only tried a couple of Virginia wineries over the years, we made a stop after visiting Monticello. The staff was friendly and knew their stuff but we felt that none of the wines jumped out at us. The Meritage was good and the Vin Blanc would be a very nice wine for a hot summer day.

My wife and I had the great pleasure to discover this great winery with, as a guide, the Italian gentleman who built it back in 1979 when it was then known as Simeon Vineyards. At this same location, 250 years ago, a vineyard was first developed in 1773 at Thomas Jefferson’s request by a viticulturist from Tuscany named Filippo Mazzei.... More

Went here today with my girlfriend. Our tasting was conducted by the lovely Elaine, who was calm and collected despite having to do three tastings at once. She was knowledgeable of the wines and answered all of our questions. All of the wines were excellent and some of the best I've had in Virginia. We didn't order any glasses or... More

The wines at Jefferson are consistent winners, ranging from off-dry whites to big bold reds. But we were in for a special treat this time -- the winery had opened up its cellars to allow us to taste library reds going back to 2005. They were delightful, especially the Bordeaux style blends from 2009 (smokey and robust) and 2010 (liquid... More
