In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs...

In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty four years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 11:00am - 6:00pm. Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines. Due to our busy harvest season, our winery will not be offering tours August through October. We look forward to your visit.

We stopped here on a recommendation from our daughter. The wine was great and staff was knowledgeable. We decided after they had already bagged our complimentary glasses to sit outside with a glass of wine; no problem, they poured us what we wanted and sat outside

We had some lovely wines here. The staff was friendly and helpful they have a small selection of cheese and snacks to enjoy on the deck or you are welcome to bring your own picnic lunch too.

Located east of Charlottesville, VA, and a couple of miles from the home of Thomas Jefferson, Monticello, Jefferson Vineyards boasts some of the best views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you like dry red and white wines, you will like this winery. I was particularly impressed with their Chardonnay '14. Typically, I am not a Chardonnay drinker, but this... More

For $10 you get a glass & 10 samples of wine. The wine was very dry. The staff were knowledgeable & friendly. No pressure to buy. 10% off if you buy 3 wines. There was no tour involved

Oh, how I longed for nice weather so we could while away an afternoon on the grounds in one of the inviting Adirondack chairs. THAT is what captures this place. The tasting was an average experience, made all the more unpleasant by smarmy staff - two points for pondering in the realm of customer service: Plain and simple you are... More

One of the many Virginia vineyards in the scenic, rolling hill countryside of central Va., this winery dates back to Thomas Jefferson and offers a wide variety (10) of wines in their splendid tasting room. Our hostess was completely knowledgeable about the history, process, vintages, and characteristics of all their wines. And a really funny and friendly guide. We bought... More

Great wines, mostly on the dry side. Our server was very informative and spent a lot of time educating us about the wines as well as the local area. The gift shop was a little pricey

We stopped at Jefferson Vineyards because it was so close to Monticello. The tasting room is on the small side, and there were a couple of boisterous groups making a lot of noise. But our server was very helpful. We got a tasting flight of ten wines for ten dollars each, which is reasonable. We did buy three bottles of... More
