Small but interesting free museum on campus we found by accident

This is not a gigantic museum but it's right on campus & worth a peek if you are visiting. They have some unusual pieces of sculpture from the late 20th C which was fun to see.

This is a small museum, but there are often interesting exhibits and the space is beautiful and well used. It's free, too! No reason not to visit if you're an art lover.

Nice museum, nice docent, but the museum was closing for the holidays and it looked as though half of the museum was being changed out for new display. The remaining displays were nice, but limited in the grand scheme of things - not much art on the walls.

I visit the UVA Art Museum 2 or 3 times a year. Most of the time it is excellent. Last time they were changing the upstairs (1/2 the show area). So we only go to see the down stairs gallery. It is my fault I didn't look at their website in advance.

Checked the website the day of our visit, and there was no notice of the fact that most of the museum was inaccessible that day due to exhibit changes. So, we arrived expecting a full visit, and were quite disappointed to find it was impossible. Really: a museum of this caliber should not require a phone call to double-check that... More

Not many things are free anymore, so you should put this on your list of things to do. The building sits on the grounds of The University of Virginia and a short walk from the Rotunda. The exhibits change often and you need to check the schedule. Definitely worth the stop if you enjoy art

What art was there I really enjoyed, but I think it took us less than 30 minutes to see everything. But, the price was right (free, you can make a donation) and a really easy walk from the rotunda. Definitely a worth stop on a visit to grounds- just double check the hours open though.

This Art Museum is a wonderful thing for Charlottesville to have. It is housed in a beautiful, old building that has been well kept. Well worth a stop!
