Try to go off season. Less crowds and plenty of choices. However, some places may go renovation or leases expire and close. Comparing to the days when college is open the summer time offers nice free parking and access to the mall. Great bargains in some of the stores due to season closing. Try the nice restaurants in and around... More

My husband and I came to town for a visit and needed some place to eat and wanted to look around downtown. It was very pretty with lots of places to eat to choose from. It would have been nice if more places had put their menus out for people to see. It was worth going to and walking around.

It is a outdoor "mall". it is very pretty. Trees are in the middle from the beginning to the end. Many shops and cafes! This was a nice break for me from the conference.

We were at the outdoor mall on Memorial Day and many of the shops were closed. But we were able to park for free in the lot at the end of the area, we did find some craft and artisan shops opened to find some trinkets, and we had a beer while sitting under the magnificent trees that line the... There really was NOTHING redeeming about this mall. There is nothing there. We made a terrible choice by choosing to go there rather than somewhere else. The few shops they had were closed at 6. Ridiculous. If people are going to be down there they need to be open. I would not recommend going at all.

This is such a cool area. The city has done a great job making this lovely pedestrian mall. The whole area is canopied with trees, has outdoor eateries, fun shops, good places to grab a bite.

My husband and I love towns. We like to go in and out of the stores talk to the people who work there. Often we buy something for the house that reminds us of our visit. This was not the case. We stopped at the visitors center for information as well. There is a lot of history in the area.... More

You will love this place in the early evenings. Places to shop for books, eat out, listen to live music and go to a free concert. Romantic for couples, kids will be safe or dogs on a leash. It is really the heart of the city. You must check it out if you are visiting the Univ of VA or... More

Great place for an outside lunch or dinner. There are lots of places to eat and lots of things to see. We had kids with us and they enjoyed wali King around and seeing the people.

City Fathers did it right for the early planning judging from the tall shades trees along the mall. Good restaurants, watering holes but my wife nor I saw any of the shops that we just had to check out.
