I've been skiing at MRG since my Dad took me here in the early 1960s, and it has hardly changed since then. Their trademark single diesel chairlift has been replaced, by a new single electric chair (who does that?), because that is what the co-op owners of this unique ski area wanted. This is truly a skier's ski area, with... More

Have the courage and faith to ride up the ghostly single chair into the mist beyond. A perfectly lonely, one that is the ideal beginning to allow riders to mentally prepare themselves in anticipation of the drop. It is very unfortunate that at this stage, the resort still prevents snowboarders from riding the mountain, possibly a little small minded? A... More

Mad River Glen is simply the best ski area for challenge, terrain and old fashioned (non corporate) ski atmosphere in the east.

A single chair lift, most runs are not groomed, no snowboarders allowed, only one restaurant and bar, casually attired skiers (male skiers with large beards found here), and mostly black runs with lots of moguls makes this place feel like "pioneer" skiing! So if you are looking for a great ski challenge and want to experience something totally different from... More

I have to come here since its one of the few places left that bans snowboarders. I snowboard as well so I don't favor one sport over another. It is also one of few places with a one-chair lift. I thought I try it before they take it down eventually. This resort has an old feel to it and really... More

Skied Mad River Glen in mid-December after what to go for years. OK, I was lucky with the weather - masses of snow. Atmosphere at resort was so laid-back and friendly. The trails are amazing. Despite its reputation for being an advanced and experts heaven, it has great green trails curving around from the Sunnyside Chair, and they are stil... More

A few weeks ago we made our annual pilgrimage to "The Valley" for a weekend of skiing. Mad River Glen is like no other ski "resort." We watched the "Unconventional Terrain Competition" as we rode the Single Chair Lift which first opened in 1948! MRG is the only cooperatively-owned ski area in America and has a unique, laid-back vibe. After... More

I only skied at MRG one day, so my experience may not be typical, but I found it beautiful and restorative. It was a Feb. weekend with fresh snow, but it wasn't crowded on the runs. The lifts are old and slow, but I didn't mind so much because I enjoyed the view and fresh air. Great terrain! The soups... More

Just returned from MRG for February vacation week with my husband and 3 boys. Everyone was so helpful and friendly! I wanted to give a special thank you to the following folks: * the chair operators who lifted my 3 little sons into the single chair multiple times a day * the cooperative members and locals who proactively gave us...
