The Trapp Family Lodge ski touring center is arguably the best East of the Mississippi. If you factor in dining and other entertainment facilities in the area, it may well be the best in the country. My husband and I planned a romantic wekend in Stowe and decided to try snowshoeing for the first time. We spent a day for free at Smuggler's Notch, which was great, but thought a trail pass for the Trapp trails would be worth it - and we were right! Visited the Nordic Center during the last week in January. Excellent daily groomed cross country ski trails, and snow shoe trails. Also, my wife and I took a group ski lesson.
