Historical building well crafted with gleaming wood and filled with art treasures plus it is the library for the charming town of St. Johnsbury. The art is easy to view, a well developed guide book is available to use during the visit and can be purchased at the main library check out desk. There are some themes in the art... More

A friend of ours told us: "Stop in St. Johnsbury and see the Bierstadt, you won't be disappointed." Wow what an understatement; what we expected was a 10 minute stop that turned into an hour personal guided tour! This is a National Historic Landmark and includes well preserved American paintings, a huge original edition book collection and remarkable architecture. Our... More

Both a library and art museum, this will bring you back to the late 19th century. A must for people who love art, architecture, and stunning works of art. Just go- you won't be disappointed.

This library/athenaeum is by far one of the most memorable places in our visit to Vermont! My daughter and I toured, she is a librarian, and had no idea what a wonderful and beautiful place it is! Very quaint town and surroundings, we entered not knowing what to expect. A beautiful building, fabulous architecture, and first-class oil paintings. Beautiful, large... More

Beautiful contribution to the St. Johnsbury community. A lot of restoration has made the building even more gorgeous. Free access, so worth stopping in to see the architecture and the art gallery.

We discovered that a walk through main street of Saint Johnsbury is definitely not complete without visiting this library. It is very unique, historical and used as the town library. Was really surprised to see the paintings in the gallery of the building as it only heightened the visit and there is a docent to give history and definition to... More

Awesome architecture inside and out. Beautiful woodwork inside, even though it's just really the local library. What a treasure to have in your town! The building itself is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Inside, in addition to the library and a reading room, they have a collection of about 20 pieces of art by artists of the Hudson... This is a nice little building that's fun to explore inside. Admission is free and there are several rooms that you can explore, including one large room in the back of the building that has numerous paintings. It's an overall neat little place where you can spend an hour or so.
