If learning to fly fish or improving your casting technique seems like a daunting task, you just haven't met the right fishing instructors. Pick up a fly rod at the Orvis Manchester Fly Fishing School, situated in the heart of Vermont's Green Mountains, and you'll be casting like a seasoned angler in just two short days of classes. Our expert instructors help you with everything from setting up the rod, to fly selection and knots, to how to safely release your catch. First class!

The team at Orvis put together a class that combined tying, casting and fishing in the school pond for our five children. Great facility and top-notch staff. Highly recommended!

We spent half a day trying to catch some fish, beginning of august, but there were not any. We have been told by the Orvis people from the school with on us on the boat, that at that time of the year there are only fishes at the sunrise and sunset, and that we should have been told...It was 10... Definitely the most memorable experience of our trip. Kyle was fantastic at setting up a custom lesson for our group of three inexperienced girls looking for an intro to fly fishing. Our guides Brendon and Tom humored our inexperience and our desire to learn while enjoying the day. They were patient instructors who clearly have a love of the sport.... More

Taking the Orvis 2 day fly fishing school was the best thing i have done in a while. Really learned a ton about the philosophy of fly fishing (e.g. the hatches, reading the water, fish handling and equipment selection. My instructor Ben was wise well beyond his 22 years! Like a big Yoda of fly fishing trapped in a young... More

I have several fly rods, take them out on occasion and quickly put them away and revert back to my spin fishing gear. I've always liked the idea of fly fishing, and love catching trout. But I just couldn't get the whole fly rod thing. For my anniversary my wife surprised me with a 2 day fly fishing school at... More

If you want to learn to fly fish, this is your school. The instructors were all great teachers, obviously love to fly fish and their love for it is contagious. I found all the instruction to be extremely interesting. We were able to then fly fish in the ponds near the school and there were many instructors rotating around to... More

Orvis needs to accommodate the novice fly fishermen that visit. We wanted to rent equipment....not readily available. Everyone was so nice in the entire property, awesome retail products available - very cool stop on this trip

Orvis is the premier player in fly fishing. Their clothing is superior and the unannounced sales at the outlet are incredible. Orvis has a fishing pond set up and gives the best in fly fishing techniques. I may be old school but I think you just learn by trial and error. Their books though are excellent. So my parents got this school for me like 10 years ago and for a variety of reasons it took me 10 years to get to it - wow! Even though in the interim I'd gotten a lot better at fly casting I still learned a ton, and they let you advance at your own pace so it was fine... More

I took my husband here for his birthday. (surprise) He is an angler, I am not. I would say that we both loved both the 1 hour casting lesson and the 4-hour guided day that we booked with Equinox. Both instructors were wonderful and were able to balance Jeff's ability with my inability. I would recommend it to anyone. The... More
