During our recent road trip in southern VT, my wife suggested that we drive up to Charlotte and take the ferry across Lake Champlain to New York. Turned out to be a delightful little side trip. The drive up to Charlotte in VT is not particularly pretty, but the ferry runs frequently, only about a 30 minute ride across the... More

We got the Amtrack from Montreal $25 and you do not need ESTA, about 2 hrs out near Plattsburgh US customs came on board and $6 fee we were processed. Cannot bring fruit across the border. The train dropped us at Port Kent at a tiny siding, we then wallet about 20 metres to the lakes edge and purchased tickets... More

Early September, a bit of a nip in the air, and Burlington is steeped in the Arts, along Pine street street filled with old industrial buildings, now dedicated to art studios, and fantastic artisans who make great lighting from old industrial hardware, as well as solid well-designed wooden furniture made with real elbow grease, good tools & solid Vermont craftsmanship.... We took the ferry from Burlington, VT to Port Kent, NY and back again. It was a very pleasant and peaceful trip across beautiful Lake Champlain. It was not too crowded on the boat so it was relaxing and quiet. We got off at Port Kent and had a bit of a look around. There is a nice little shop/cafe... More

I arrived in Burlington the morning of 8/28, and took the 1:30 ferry to NY State and back. It was $18 for a round trip ticket (per adult). The view of the Adirondacks was breathtaking. The ride was smooth and quiet. Very relaxing. It's also a nice opportunity to meet other travelers and share traveling stories. The entire trip was... More

On our way home on a recent trip to New Hampshire, we drove to Grand Isle, VT and took the ferry across to Plattsburg, NY. The line up for the ferry wasn't long and the fare across was a better option than driving north and across the bridge at the top of the lake. Staff were friendly and efficient in... More

We took the ferry from Port Kent, NY to Burlington, VT at the suggestion of a family member. I was somewhat apprehensive due to feeling seasick and motion sick very easily. Neither was a factor and we really enjoyed our passage over to Burlington. The views were breathtaking! The ride was smooth and staff were very friendly. We would definitely... More

Took the 10:50 am ferry from Port Kent NY to Burlington VT on a beautiful, sunny day. Crossing took about one hour. The views of the Green Mountains on one side and the Adirondacks on the other were some of the best I've seen!

The ferry from Plattsburg, NY to Grand Isle, VT is quick, easy, and cheap. We drove up, paid our $14 for two passengers and a car and drove right on to the small ferry. The crossing is less than 15 minutes and then it is a scenic drive to get to the main part of Vermont. The ferry from Burlington,... More

Took the ferry as an extention of a road trip, arrived at the dock just in time for the ferry, with no waiting. Weather was beautiful and clear, and very enjoyable. Snacks and gifts are available on board. Easy to get to on both side of the lake.
