We started out from St. George and had a great time stopping and climbing the volcanoes...it's a must thing to do if you are in the area. Be careful because it can tear your pants if you slide down...Pine Valley is a beautiful mountain community. Peaceful and small the chapel is a wonderful part of this community. The drive and... Once the dominant structure in this small mountain community, the Pine Valley Chapel is a living vestige of a bygone era. They say its builders believed that the Great Flood was coming back, and so built the pretty little wooden chapel high above the ground so it could float to safety (presumably with the town's residents inside). It's been maintained... More

We have toured the chapel and grounds with friends on various occasions. It's a nice place to stop on your way to or from the mountain. The history of the site is fascinating. It amazes me that a ship builder used the knowledge he had to construct the place. We have always had very kind tour guides, and each has... More

We were wandering from St George and found this little chapel in the town of Pine Valley Utah. It is a most unusual building, constructed by ship builders who made the roof as if it were a large boat. It is quite interesting. There was a good feeling of both ingenuity, and dedication. There are camping places nearby at the... More

The chapel is apparently closed during winter (at least when we went, on Saturday) but this is not listed on their website as far as I can see.

Wonderful place to visit. When you are there talk to the local residents to learn about the pioneers who settled Pine Valley. You will hear amazing stories of the effort and sacrifice to settle this beautiful place.

The chapel was built by a ship builder who incorporated his skills in the design of the chapel. It is worth the scenic drive to see this part of Western History.

We came to Pine Valley on a weekday and took a tour of this chapel, and came back on Sunday for church services, which was fun and very crowded. We love the little town and had a picnic in the State Park both times.
