Highly recommend taking the drive up to Guardsman. There is a trail down to a Lake (approx. 1 1/2 roundtrip). We packed lunch and enjoyed it lakeside before hiking back up the hill. Beautiful views, wildflowers, etc.

Offers access to many hiking trails, mountain lakes, beautiful wild flowers, and wildlife. Saw a young moose!

Beautiful scenery, great hiking and biking trails (moderate to challenging), hidden lakes, moose, elk, and other wildlife.

Spectacular view... started raining but not bad. Be careful, because the road is windy. I can see why they close it in winter.

The parking area at the summit of the pass was crowded, but I was able to park along the road, very close to the summit. From the summit, we walked up the access road that climbs northwest, about 3/4 of a mile. The road fist climbs through an alpine meadow, and then enters a small pine forest. On the other... More

It can get crowded up there so I suggest going early and preferably on a weekday, but definitely make the trip. The views are fantastic, and the driving isn't too windy/narrow.

My husband and boys discovered it early on in our trip and then brought me and my daughter back to see it. There is a little lake you can hike to in about 15 minutes. My kids climbed above the parking lot and got great views of it. I'm afraid of height so the very narrow road freaked me out,... More

Great drive with many curves and hairpins. Don't drive in the weekend as many cars are being parked on the side of road which makes it more difficult to drive

Drove the scenic byway the afternoon of our first stay. The view is very nice, and there was a nice trail off the pass that provided an enjoyable hike and a very nice view. We continued on the pass to toward the town of Brighton and went on a hike to the lake. The views here were also very beautiful... More

This is beautiful drive and a nice way to get back to SLC. They have made improvements. It use to be a dirt road but not it is all paved.
