I did the 3 day/2 night trip with Lajitas Stables between Christmas and New Year's 2014/2015. The 1st day we were a group of 5 and days 2 and 3 we were a group of 3 with Janell as our guide. I found the company to be very accommodating and flexible. The horses were a good fit for each person... More

We read about these guys in their little pamphlet on the welcome rack at the State Park. We were hopping to go on our anniversary, but when I called the lady I spoke with recommended that we wait a day for better weather. We did and our ride was amazing! Truth be told I was concerned that this would be... More

Well, you folks really were brave to tough out that weather! Thanks for hanging in there with us. Seems the beauty of Big Bend simply eliminates the chill in the air some days! Glad you enjoyed your ride and we look forward to your return! More

Although this review is not about the stables and day tours which are nice. this is about the highway (actually FM 170) between Presidio and Lajitas. the drive actually began in Marfa Texas. take hwy 67 to Presidio, next go to FM 170 East to Lajitas. The route begins fairly rolling with desert type hills, after the small town of... More

We love sharing the many attractions to the Big Bend Country along with a true western horseback trail ride at one of our two Stables here. FM 170, following the Rio Grande river from Presidio to the front doorstep of our Lajitas Stables has been ranked one of the top 10 scenic drives in North America; it is #1 to... More

Have you seen a polyglot cowboy before?:)Well, our guide John spoke Chinese and German!:)I was impressed. He also played ukulele and brought a nice lunch (salad and chicken). Karl (another guide) was very attentive and checking on everyone making sure we are safe and comfortable. I will do a day-long tour next time.

My husband and I were originally booked to ride at the Big Bend Stables, but due to the rain and mud, the owner contacted us to schedule us here. It was a bit further to travel, but so worth it. Our guide, Josh, was informative and an all around wonderful person. We did the 3 hour ride and traveled and... More

We always appreciate when our guests are willing to be flexible, particularly when it comes to safety! The advantage of having two (2) areas to ride Horseback in the Big Bend area is not only the different terrain, but also the different experiences visitors can absorb. We really look forward to your return! More

The Saddle Paddle tour was an amazing experience for our family. First we spent the morning at Lajitas Stables where we saddled up for a great adventure. Janelle was wonderful and full of knowledge. My 12 yr old could not get enough about the plants and animals in the area. Lunch was wonderful and a pleasant surprise with the spread... More

The nice people and happy horses at the stables cannot make you overlook the terrible condition the environment is outside the national park. Butts, beer cans and lots of other human debris is mostly visible for the first hour of the ride. Four-wheeler tracks everywhere further reduce the natural aspect of the ride. One asks himself why would people mess... More

We regret that you had a disappointing experience at our Big Bend Stables. We would like to explain that the horseback riding from the Big Bend Stable passes through remnants of human history for interpretive enjoyment and would not be defined as a ‘wilderness’ by any measure. What the Old Quicksilver Mine Tour does share is a glimpse into a... More

It was a pleasurable ride for my daughter and I. Neither one of us are experienced riders but the trail horses simply follow each other so it's easy. The scenery was great, but unlike the jeep tour we took you don't learn much about the area or the history or anything like that. You pretty much just ride along in... More

I did the Painted Desert Sunset Ride. It was fun and the staff were professional and pleasant. I would definitely recommend this for most people. Just one thing to keep in mind-if you have some experience with real riding, this isn't for you, as you don't really get to control the horse to do your own things.

We did the four hour ride in the morning in March. Great views, good guides, pretty tame horses, wonderful lunch. Absolutely worth the trip. You will get a little tired if you don't ride much (which I don't) but the trip is worth it.
