Ideal for kids as you can drive onto the beach and park up with all your kit right next to you. Pretty busy though.

We drove further down the coast of surfside beach and found an area that you could drive your car right onto the beach and just enjoy the place! The beach was super clean and the sand was really nice. The water was pretty nice considering we aren't on the Florida side! Enjoyed it immensely!

i have been twice to this family-friendly beach. we stayed right on the beach, with a beautiful view. several good restaurants, on the beach. we walked a long ways, so decided to rent a golf-cart to get back. my kids loved it! mosquitos were terrible, but we have had so much rain.

Great local beach here in Houston. No coral on the shore, less congested, but no restaurants off the water or anything like in Galveston.

As Texas beaches go, this one is probably the best I've been to. The sand is clean. The water is warm but doesn't have a million jelly fish (like Corpus). There is a sand bar about 100 yards out which protects the beach from large waves making it ideal for small children or anyone who doesn't like huge waves. Be... More

Not exactly a hidden gem, but Surfside Beach is less popular and less developed than the nearby Galveston. It is one hour south of Houston. The public beach has 2 parts - pedestrian, which is free; and the driveable beach, which requires a $12 annual permit. We recently spent a very pleasant evening hour at the pedestrian beach. It was... More

Wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. Super clean beach with great sand. Surfside Beach is much cleaner than Galveston Beach.

I had never been to a Texas beach, and I wanted to take my 2 1/2 year old and 11 month old to the beach for the first time. I hear that Galveston is a little busy for little ones, so my wife and I headed to Surfside. We really enjoyed our 3 hours there. It was clean (although they... More

This is a hidden gem,if you go to the beach to play on the beach. This place doesn't have all frills and thrills of galveston, just a very nice clean, kid friendly beach. It has a few restaurants and Kittys purple cow has great burgers and is very casual. The rates are reasonable, you will be pleasantly surprised as our family was.
