The beach was surprisingly nice for a texas beach. I was expecting brown water and it much nicer than other texas beaches I have been to in the past.

This has been the go-to beach as long as we've lived in houston. It's actually closer for us to go to surfside than galveston- since we live in the north houston area. This year sad to see the shore so erroded. As of late July 2014- the seaweed is GONE......so get your butts out there! I love the gulf- i... More

Really enjoyed our stay. There was a pretty fair amount of seaweed, but such is the beach. The beach was nice and well maintained.

We spent a week here. Very dirty and gross seaweed collecting on the beach! Why isn't the beach cleaned? Avoid the beach right now. What a shame.

True, it's nice that this beach is not overcrowded . But if you visit the beach, you'll see why there's not a lot of people that come. It's disgusting!! It's like they don't want to attract a lot of people there by not taking care of it. Seaweed that hasn't been raked in a very long time, and trash is... More

Yes, the sea weeds are pile up--- so what! We gave the toddlers kiddie rakes and brought lawn rakes ourselves. We raked out an area, set up our umbrellas and enjoyed the great weather. The sargasso seaweed is all up and down the coast- At least there is no sea wall like Galveston- The water is shallow, the sun is... More

Visited Surfside on July 5th and it will be a long time until I come back. Unfortunately, the town did not effectively remove any seaweed or trash during the long July 4th weekend. If Texas wants to attract tourists to their beaches, they need to spend money to clean them similar to other parts of the US (e.g. New Jersey).

I give Surfside Beach a good rating because I have been here more than once when the seaweed and bugs were not an issue. We were here over the 4th of July holiday and both of the above were horrible. Granted, this is an act of nature that is very hard to deal with. The city did rake the beach... More

We came down for the Fourth of July to a beautiful rental. The beaches were good, seaweed apparently has been the worst in the last 6 or 7 weeks but we noticed they were cleaning it in the morning before people came out. During the day it was nice, they don't call it surfside beach for nothing! Lots of boogie... More

We had never been to the Gulf in Texas before and this was a nice soft beach. It wasn't tourist-y with shops or concessions like in Galveston, but that's what we were going for. To get away from the loud and enjoy a nice quiet day. We live in the Midwest and our son thought seeing the ocean for the... More
