Ila Loetscher, the "Turtle Lady of South Padre Island", originally formed our organization to save the Kemp's ridley sea turtle in 1977. Now we are a sea turtle hospital with a mission to rehabilitate and release any injured sea turtles, increase awareness concerning their safety and habitat, and assist with conservation efforts for all sea turtle species. We are funded by donations, grants and gift shop proceeds-- For rehabilitated sea turtle and hatchling release text message notifications, please see our website membership page. S. Padre needs to do more to clean their beaches of plastic! We watched a live sea turtle birth on beach the first morning we were there, April 24, 2015. Mama laid 100 eggs. Amazing experience.

Sea Turtle Inc. is doing great marine conservation work for the sea turtles that nest on the island. Their small headquarters is absolutely worth a visit, if for no other reason than it will only cost a couple bucks (they ask for a voluntary donation of about $3.00 per person) and it will take less than an hour to see.... This was an inexpensive place to take the entire family. Very hands on. We loved it! The people inside were extremely friendly, they even let us feed the turtle that's roaming around. We would go back!

This is a wonderful place for all ages to visit. There are several varieties of sea turtles there with personal information about each one. You can get up close to them and observe them swimming and eating. All of the workers and volunteers are very friendly and eager to answer questions. There was a school group there on a field... These wonderful humans rescue and rehabilitate wounded and sick seas turtles. It is free to get into but make sure you bring money to donate! (They don't make you our even push you to but I think you should) this time...I've been three times...We went while they were feeding then and that is fun to watch! They even had a... More

Unfortunately the "Turtle Lady " died years ago.(2000 at age 95) She was amazing and started the whole "save the turtles" campiagn on South Padre Island. We were there when she was alive and watching turtles hatch and the rehabiliatation of injured turtles was awe inspiring. It still is. IF you can book a trip on the Boat Launch which... More

This is a rescue center for sea turtles. It has a bunch of sea turtles that you can get right up next to and even feed if you get there at the right time. We actually adopted one of the hatchlings. This is a great place for adults and kids alike!

We really liked this place. We were eager to donate money once we saw how important donations are. This is a great place to swing by and check out. We learned some things we didn't know about Sea Turtles. Go check it out if you're in town!
