Ila Loetscher, the "Turtle Lady of South Padre Island", originally formed our organization to save the Kemp's ridley sea turtle in 1977. Now we are a sea turtle hospital with a mission to rehabilitate and release any injured sea turtles, increase awareness concerning their safety and habitat, and assist with conservation efforts for all sea turtle species. We are funded by donations, grants and gift shop proceeds-- For rehabilitated sea turtle and hatchling release text message notifications, please see our website membership page. This educational stop was well worth the trip. The work that these wonderful people do is amazing. The day we went they had a turtle release on the beach. Wish we would have liked them on facebook so we could have known about it. Before you go, make sure you check out their facebook page for up to date information.

Small but informational place that rehabilitates sea turtles. Also releases newly hatched babies into this wild. Visit takes about 30 minutes on a busy day. Staff was friendly and helpful and had a huge amount of information. Entry is free with a donation box. Worth the stop.

This has been one of my favorite places since I was little. Not only is it a wonderful experience just to be so close to these sea turtles, but it's an educational one as well. The only cost they ask is a suggested donation.

It was amazing to see all of the things that they are doing to help sea turtles locally on South Padre. There were a number of rescues there during our visit both small and large. This is definitely a don't miss type of stop. It only takes about an hour or so but you'll be glad you went - and... More

My husband and I stopped after a day at the Beach. The small facility rehabs and releases injured turtles as well as hosting permanent residents. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, giving us a tour and identifying the different species that are found locally. This is an outstanding organization well worth a visit!

It's a bit small but very educational and even my 12 year old enjoyed it! It was a nice diversion in the heat of the day to get out of the sun for a bit.

Quick and easy side visit to Sea Turtle Inc. We visited this place 10 years ago when our kids were much younger...nice to see that they are still going strong and doing great work with turtle rescue and public education.

Loved seeing the turtles up close and learning more about them! Enjoyed feeding one too! Plus it was an inexpensive outing.

My husband and I and our extended family visited Sea Turtle, Inc. and so enjoyed it. We were able to sit for an educational presentation, walk around and visit turtles in the tanks at our leisure and spend time with Jeff, the director. My husband and I came a couple of times in past years, and have never been disappointed.... More
