Ila Loetscher, the "Turtle Lady of South Padre Island", originally formed our organization to save the Kemp's ridley sea turtle in 1977. Now we are a sea turtle hospital with a mission to rehabilitate and release any injured sea turtles, increase awareness concerning their safety and habitat, and assist with conservation efforts for all sea turtle species. We are funded by donations, grants and gift shop proceeds-- For rehabilitated sea turtle and hatchling release text message notifications, please see our website membership page. This is a place that rescues injured sea turtles. The volunteer was very knowledgeable in the care of the turtles and talked about their habitat and how the turtles came to their center.

Neat place to learn about and see the turtles. They are a rescue and rehab center so not only do you get to see some awesome animals, you are helping support and care for them.

Definitely a must-go if you are a sea animal lover! There are many sea turtles you can see here which are all different sizes. There are gigantic ones too! The water tanks are all different sizes and each of them have descriptions for you to read. There isn't an admission fee but you should donate some bucks for their conservation.... More

It's fun to see the turtles! The facility is tiny though but very educational. It's certainly not a tourist trap!

This is a great cause run by very caring individuals and volunteers. Depending on the time of year, there may be 20 turtles or there may just be 6 including a couple permanent residents. Still worth stopping in and seeing these incredible turtles and helping with their cause.

I've visited this little place a couple of times. It's amazing the good work they are doing. They are helping protect the Ridley turtle and taking in injured and sick turtles reported to them. When you visit, you can walk among the large tanks where the turtles recover. They are able to release back into the water about 90% of... More

Have been here twice now. Such a great place for families to learn about the turtles and experience them close up. When we were there a turtle had just been rescued and was coming in to the hospital. Great way to teach kids about compassion. Highly recommend.

The location is small, but packed with information. We were traveling wth college-aged kids and older adults. It was facinating. The educational program was the perfect length and really gave us an appreciation for what is done here.

Very educational, you get to see the sea turtles that they are helping heal. They have a half hour talk all about sea turtles. Sometimes they release sea turtles into the gulf. They have a cute gift shop also.

The lecture is excellent! The lecturer gives wonderful insight into the rescue and handling of wounded sea turtles. They close at four so a good idea to call ahead to see when the lecture will start. It's well worth time to look around.
