Nice lake with areas for bbq. Shallow areas for the kids to splash around. Don't pay $20 per carload to get in. Go to the public area and pay $2 per person. They are no different and there is plenty of shade. More

There are five small state parks around Lake Somerville, two of which are connected by the 13 Somerville Trailway which is a great mountain bike ride. It is currently flooded, but normally a great trail with some great views. More

Camped at the Nails Creek unit during spring break and the winter and early spring rain has brought the lake back up to normal which is great for boaters and campers. We camped near the lake, the new bathrooms with showers were not open yet but should be now. We showered in the other camping area bathrooms. I wish there... More

We went to the North shore side of the lake and found the camping experience well worth the drive. Well layed out and caters to all camping, tent, rv and even Horse & trailer. I will go back and do the trail ride as we did the biking and hiking and seem to be a very good trail. Very nice. More

We have been going to Somerville for a few years but have never camped at the park. The facilites were cleaner than any othe state park we have stayed at including Lake Livingston. The grounds were... More

Where to begin .... We live in Austin and as of Nov. '08, have been bitten by the camping bug. We've been exploring the wonderful state parks around Austin. To this point we've enjoyed each we've hit incl Kerrville, Garner, Inks Lake(twice), and of course Somerville(Birch Creek). Now that i think of it.. rather than get into a long drawn... More
