Located in town of Port Isabel. Easy to find. The view from the top is well worth the short climb. Built to guide ships through the barrier islands, its low profile was tall enough! It served the purpose intended A lovely stop on the way to South Padre Island.

It surprised me a bit that this lighthouse was on the inside or mainland side and not out on Padre Island, but the stop was pleasant. There is a small park which seems a bit like a town square, the lighthouse was still under construction while I was there. I walked around a bit, there a few restaurants and a... More

It's being renovated right now, but when I did visit it years ago it was hot inside. It was fun to look out the top.

Interesting. My 9 year old son thought it was great. Me... not so much. Lot of stairs going round and round. Close quarters too.

Basically, it is a small lighthouse on a grassy lot. One of just a few in Texas, we are told. There is no beacon light. You can climb a spiral staircase and stand on the catwalk. It is interesting, if you have never seen a lighthouse.

Positives: historic structure, close to other attractions Negatives: a long journey for many, limited parking, currently under repair Although the Texas gulf shore is hundreds of miles long, only sixteen lighthouses were ever constructed along the coast. Some have been removed. Most that remain are difficult to reach. Several are privately owned. Only the Port Isabel lighthouse, now a state... More

The lighthouse was a wonderful attraction for the family, and they played a movie in the evening that was free for families and kids oriented. The children where allowed to run around the lighthouse outside it was very nice.

You just walk up the stairs and look out. There is no one giving you a history about it. On one hand, it's a super fast stop. If someone didn't read up on it though, he/she would probably be wanting more information.
