My Texan friend told me that this beach was nothing more than a sand bar. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this is not the case! Remember that you are in Texas so don't expect the Riviera, but for this part of the gulf, it really is a nice and clean beach.

I like that its doesn't have a lot of highrises or too crowed. I hate that cars can drive on the beach up and down so because not to get run over! I'm not a fan of looking at oil rigs off the beach.

Here for the winter season, the beaches are pretty quiet. Water is beautiful and crowds are non existent. Love that you can drive on the beach if its really cold--windows down so you still hear the waves and smell the water.

The beach is easily accessible from many parts of town. It is one of the few beaches where cars are allowed to drive right up to the water or the jetty. It is wide so one never feels crowded. Walking over the dunes is easy if you are on foot. Pets and camping are also allowed. There are a couple... More

There are definitely better beaches in TExas, but Port A is a shorter drive plus there are great restaurants nearby. Everyone loves a day at the beach. This area is popular for fishing and boating.

Nice drive on Port A beach! Packed sand for cars, but for my Jeep. Well, you know. Goes everywhere. Even when there are a lot of people, you have plenty of room.

Husband and dog loved going out on the beach on a daily basis, The came back all sandy but the view from our second floor was fantastic. All tile floor made it easy to sweep up.

The minus to the Port A beach is probably a plus to many people - the cars on the beach. Not all drivers follow the speed limit. If you have young children, you must constantly be on the alert for the vehicle traffic. Unless you are walking very near or in the water, you must watch for cars/trucks. For me,... More

In the spring and early summer the beach will have a lot of seaweed that will accumulate on the beach, but the city goes and haul the seaweed away the fastest as they can.The beach is very nice to come too,but in the summer on the weekends it's very busy.
