Description: The Interurban Railway Museum is strategically located in Plano's Haggard...
The Interurban Railway Museum is strategically located in Plano's Haggard Park and surrounding historic downtown and neighborhood. Amenities such as a playground, picnic tables, a bandstand, and a small pond can be found within the park. Parking is available in the lot immediately adjacent to the museum and the DART rail stop. Museum guests will enjoy a tour of Railway Post Office Car #360, guided by a uniformed rail car motor man. Guests will learn about the rail post office system, discuss period advertising in the train car and learn more about electric rail travel. Guests will also tour the Interurban Railway Museum, learning about regional history in the history room, exploring interactive displays in the science room and experiencing the working "O" scale model train layout and other period artifacts. For those wishing to explore the park and surrounding neighborhood, information is available for a walking tour of the historic area surrounding the museum. Also, be sure to ask about the public art pieces in the neighboring park and the museum's time capsule! Every Friday at 10:30 a.m. the museum offers a children's story time, hosted by professional storyteller Genie Hammel. The museum is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Saturday 1 - 5 p.m. Special field trip programs are available upon request.

I've visited the museum on multiple occasions, alone and with friends over a period of four years. A few thoughts: MUSEUM: It is not a large museum, but is very immersive, explaining through exhibits not only the way trains at the turn of the century operated, but the history of rail travel, as well as local rail history. It is... More

this is a nice way to entertain your little ones. it's free and there is a large playground near the museum. the dart rail is also right there so you could take them on a real train after seeing the models in the interurban railway museum.

This is a fun place to learn what travel was like in the early 1900's. The Interurban Railway provided transportation, delivered mail, and moved crops, supplies and other goods between Denison and Dallas. Parents will appreciate the historical information and realize what an important boon this must have been to the economy, not to mention being able to travel to... More

There wasn't a lot to the museum, but the park and stuff beside the museum made it worth while. Again nice because you can get outside with the fam for a bit

This quaint museum tells the history of the central Texas Interurban railway. The museum features items from the era and one of the rail cars. It is located in Haggard Park which is a nice place to picnic or just hang out. This is a nice area and seems to be family friendly.

We went there today. The employee/volunteer, I don't know which, was so rude even to the point of picking up a child's hand and tossing hard it away from a button. It wasn't my child, but the behavior was outrageous. I watched him closely so that he dare not treat my child this way. The other parent was really not... More

We only spent about an hour. The kids (ages 9,6,22 and ME) liked the model train display and the exhibits and information inside. We really liked boarding the car outside and talking to the conductor (who was accurately dressed)about the operations of the train cars. The volunteers working inside were very knowledgeable and and engaged the kids. Great stop and... More
