Our son lives in Canyon Lake and it is a beautiful part of the Texas Hill Country! Although we did not get to spend as much time exploring the area as we would like to we will be making a return trip very soon.

Beautiful lake, and a great place to hike, chill and unwind. Really enjoyed the long walk along the dam, the just hanging by the side of the lake for awhile.
Beautiful lake, the core of engineers park behind the dam was really nice. Took the walking trail at the bottom of the dam (2nd parking lot) from main road. Very pretty and lots to see. River is nice and lots of small animals, birds and foilage all around. Seating every 50 yards or so.
Beautiful clear turquoise waters surrounded by the magnificent rolling terrain of the Texas Hill Country! Great parks, picnic areas and beaches. Fun for boating (there's always water) kayaking and swimming or just floating in a tube. My favorite place to spend a day!

We spent a few minutes on the overlook, and walking out on the dam. Just a beautiful place to stop, swim, or picnic. A short walk down to the water, but the walk up is all uphill. The bathroom could be better stocked, and better kept.
I found Canyon Lake just out and about driving around to explore the area, and WOW what a beautiful place it is!! It is sad that the lake levels have lowered quite a bit which is noticeable but regardless still a great place. Many hiking trails, camping, restaurants and more!!
The worst part of traveling in Texas is the lack of water. Canyon Lake is man-made, so nothing special for us, but we did find it pretty and interesting that the Corps of Engineers had built this and we had a nice walk across the dam. We did hear that the old city of Canyon is actually at the bottom...

The area is now much more crowded that ti was 20m years ago however it is still a delightful area to spend some time in the Hill County. There are restaurants scattered though out the area, there are plenty of boat...
